Whether you’re an expert stargazer who understands the power of these full-moon cycles or you’re hoping to spot a supermoon for the first time, we’ve got you covered. What is a supermoon, exactly?

The word supermoon was first used in 1979 by astrologer Richard Nolle, when he used it in an article in Dell Horoscope. It describes a full moon that is physically closer to Earth than it usually is, something that’s known as perigee, according to NASA. When the moon reaches this point, it appears about 14% larger and 30% brighter.

Normally, the moon has an average distance of 238,000 miles from Earth, but its perigee (closest approach) and apogee (farthest approach) change from month to month. A supermoon needs two things in order to occur. First, the moon needs to be at its closest perigee to the Earth in its orbit, which is when the moon is closest to Earth. And second, the moon must be in its full-moon phase, which happens every 29.5 days. Supermoons happen only a few times a year because the moon’s orbit is always reorienting itself as the Earth orbits the sun.

How rare are supermoons?

Supermoons might sound otherworldly, but you might be surprised to learn they’re relatively common. There are about three to four supermoons every year, occurring three to four months apart from one another. In fact, this phenomenon is so common that only the closest three or four lunar approaches each year qualify as supermoons. Of course, not all supermoons are built the same. And when a supermoon aligns with a secondary lunar event, like a blue moon, blood moon or harvest moon, the energy of this moon feels more electric and rare than a traditional supermoon.

Blue moons, which refer to the second full moon that occurs in a calendar month, are rare. Supermoons are even rarer than that. And a blue supermoon is one of the rarest of them all. Despite what the name might suggest, the super blue moon in Augustor any blue moon, for that matterwill not appear blue in color. Blue moons get their name from a 16th-century expression used to describe something that rarely happens.

When are the supermoons in 2023?

We’ll be treated to four supermoons in a row this year. The first supermoon of 2023 occurred in July, the second in early August, and the next two will take place in late August and September. As for that rare blue supermoon, it falls at the very end of August. So grab your calendar and mark down these dates so you know when to see the next lunar show.

2023 supermoon dates:

  • July 3, 2023: Super Buck Moon in Capricorn (224,895 miles from Earth)
  • Aug. 1, 2023: Super Sturgeon Moon in Aquarius (222,158 miles from Earth)
  • Aug. 30, 2023: Super Blue Moon in Pisces (222,043 miles from Earth)
  • Sept. 29, 2023: Super Harvest Moon in Aries (224,657 miles from Earth)

How can you see the August 2023 supermoon?

We’re already past the first August supermoon, but the one on Aug. 30the super blue moonwill be visible from North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, Africa and the Middle East. It will peak on Aug. 30, 2023, at 9:36 p.m. ET.

Even cooler? Saturn will also be visible in the night sky alongside it for double the viewing pleasure. You might want to check out these other astronomy facts before the big day.

What’s so special about the August 2023 supermoon?

The supermoon on Aug. 30 will be just 222,043 miles from Earth, making it the closest, biggest and brightest full moon of the year. In fact, the next time we’ll have a full supermoon closer than that won’t be until Aug. 21, 2032, when it will be 221,760 miles from Earth.

This supermoon is also a rare combination of three separate events: a full moon, a supermoon and a blue moon. Having this alignment occur doesn’t happen very often. In fact, if you miss the blue supermoon on Aug. 30, 2023, you’ll have to wait nine more years until this cosmic alignment occurs again!

Can supermoons affect us?

The moon has been an object of fascination for thousands of years, and it’s long been thought that it can influence human behavior. This idea is known as lunar theory, or the lunar effect. Everything from losing sleep to losing your mind has been blamed on the moon. The moon represents your inner world and emotional landscape in astrology, and during a supermoon, the intensity of the moon’s energy is supposedly magnified, causing feelings of anger, frustration, irritability or sadness to boil over. When a supermoon graces the night sky, you might feel things that have been hidden bubble up to the surface.

Other experts believe that supermoons can increase severe weather, storms, volcanic activity and even earthquakes. And while the moon does have a direct physical effect on oceanic tides, there’s no scientific evidence to support these other claims of impending natural disasters.

What do supermoons typically mean for your zodiac sign?

Supermoons are powerful cosmic events that can turn things upside down. The heightened energy can push people to extremes, and how each zodiac sign is impacted will depend on the planets involved in that particular full moon. Cancer, however, will always feel the shift of the moon. Cancer is the only zodiac sign that has the moon as its planetary ruler, and because of that, this water sign is hypersensitive to the turning tides. This becomes even more apparent when the moon is in a fellow water sign like Scorpio or Pisces.

Because supermoons are so energetically draining, experts suggest taking things nice and easy when they come around. In general, full moons are cycles of emotional release, reflection and rejuvenation. So during a supermoon, you shouldn’t start any new projects or take on extra stressbut you should get in touch with your body and listen to what its telling you. “Supermoons are the perfect time to turn off your notifications, get rid of distractions and refocus. Give yourself space to see what is being amplified and illuminated in your life,” says spiritual guide Sarah Faith Gottesdiener, author of The Moon Book. “This is a very important time for big changes. Utilize it to put your head down and pull your plans together for the rest of the year.”

What does the August 2023 supermoon mean for your zodiac sign?

Because this full moon occurs at the start of Virgo season, there’s a focus on getting back to basics. Summer has been particularly intense, thanks to Venus retrograde causing drama in people’s love lives. With this super blue moon in Pisces happening just days ahead of Venus retrograde ending, you can expect it to be an emotional one.

“August’s supermoons come at a time when Venus and Mercury are both in retrograde,” says Gottesdiener. “Recover, review, reflect and reinvent before the eclipses in October, which will boost whatever you are putting into motion now.” Try to understand the hidden nature of things, embracing the power of empathy and self-awareness, and don’t be afraid to go there. Instead, take this moment to get in touch with your emotions and get back to your dreams and your truth, especially before the fall equinox arrives with its own set of astrological challenges.

Happiness is written in the stars

As different as we all are, every person on the planet wants one thing: to figure out how to be happier. But while there are some common strategies we can use in our pursuit of happinessfrom figuring out our purpose and finding our peoplewhat really works for us depends on our unique makeup, including our unique astrological makeup. Our sun signs play a large part in determining what makes us tick and what can turn each of us into the happiest zodiac sign.

Which is the happiest zodiac sign?

As you may have guessed, happiness comes more naturally to certain signs, just like some signs tend to be more polite or more trustworthy. According to astrologer Liz Simmons, Leo and Sagittarius are the happiest zodiac signs. “Leo is a fixed fire sign who’s ruled by the sun and associated with the 5th House, [which is the feel-good part of the zodiac],” she notes. “Usually the sun is considered an exceptionally positive celestial body, so Leo’s confidence and charisma would be evident thanks to its planetary ruler.” As a fixed fire sign, Leo is also “consistently upbeat, enthusiastic and self-assured,” Simmons adds.

Sagittarius is similar to Leo, though this mutable fire sign is ruled by Jupiter and associated with the 9th House of travel, belief systems and exploration. “This zodiac sign’s optimism is usually unwavering, since its planetary ruler is incredibly exuberant,” says Simmons. And it tends to always move forward in search of brighter horizons.”

How can you be happier?

With a naturallypositive attitudeon their sides, Leo and Sagittarius might be the happiest zodiac signs, but any sign can boost their blissespecially if they know their strengths and weaknesses. The following advice will point you in the right direction and have you smiling more in no time. Knowing your zodiac compatibility with other signs and getting a lift from these inspirational quotes will help too.

The animal associated with your birth year reveals a lot about your personality and the year ahead.

The post The 12 Chinese Astrology Signs and What They Mean for You appeared first on Reader's Digest.

]]>
For more than 2,000 years, the Chinese zodiac has played an integral role in Chinese culture. You may have heard that 2023 is the Year of the Rabbit, but if youre not familiar with Chinese traditions, you might not understand the significance ofChinese New Yearand the Chinese zodiac system. While Western astrology is detailed, Chinese astrology is even more complex and nuanced, incorporating not just the 12 Chinese astrology signs but also the five Chinese zodiac elementsearth, metal, water, wood and fireand yin and yang energy. But let’s begin with the basics: What are the 12 Chinese astrology signs, how did they come to be, and what do they mean for your personality? And if you’re looking to learn more than just your animal sign, read up on the Lunar New Year, Chinese New Year foodand Chinese New Year traditions.

What is the Chinese zodiac?

The Chinese zodiac, also known as Shengxiao (“born resembling”), is a repeating cycle of 12 years, and each year is represented by a different animal. In order, the 12 animals are Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. The order of the Chinese astrology signs is related to the most commonly accepted legend of the Chinese zodiac: the Jade Emperor’s Race. As the story goes, the Chinese emperor held a race to determine which lucky animals would have the honor of being added to the calendar. The first-place winnerwho ended up being the ratwould claim the first year of the 12-year cycle, and so on.

What is my Chinese astrology sign, and what does it mean?

Juleen (Zhuqing) Wang, Student Services Advisor for Montclair State University’s School of Business, grew up in Hangzhou, China. She loves to share Chinese culture and history with her students, and she also sometimes teaches Chinese language classes. As a native of China, she and her family always clung to the superstition of the Chinese zodiac. “Nowadays,” she says, “[fewer] people care about it, but it’s still in people’s minds.” For example, zodiac traits and compatibility are often cited as reasons for why two people don’t get along. (“They’re a Tiger and an Oxof course they’re fighting!”)

While that may sound a lot like Western astrology, Wang notes that the very natures of Western and Eastern astrology are inherently different. “In Western astrology, horoscopes change,” she explains. “Chinese astrology is pretty set in stone.” Unlike Western astrology, which is governed by the constant planetary movements, Chinese astrology is predetermined by birth year; an Ox is an Ox, and that never changes (though the personality of a Water Ox will be somewhat different from a Fire Ox’s). So, what does your animal sign say about you?

Illustration of animal from the chinese zodiac: rabbit

Rabbit

Birth years of the Rabbit: 1915, 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011

Next year of the Rabbit: 2023

People born in Rabbit years are described as smart, kind and docile. Rabbits do not get along with Snakes, which Wang knows from personal experience. “My dad was an Ox,” she reminisces. “I’m a daddy’s girl. My mom is a Rabbit and she said I bullied her!” Rabbits are said to get along famously with Dogs, Goats, Monkeys and Pigs.

Illustration of animal from the chinese zodiac: dragon

Dragon

Birth years of the Dragon: 1928, 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012

Next year of the Dragon: 2024

Dragons are incredibly important to Chinese culture, so naturally, the Dragon is a very popular Chinese astrology sign. “Dragon is warmhearted and enthusiastic. The birth rate will actually even increase during that year because everyone wants a Dragon baby,” Wang reveals. “There is such a huge competition when Dragon babies need to go to college, because [they] are facing more competitors.” She also notes that Jack Ma, owner of Alibaba and one of the richest men in China, is a Dragon. Dragons pair best with Roosters, Rats and Monkeys.

Illustration of animal from the chinese zodiac: Snake

Snake

Birth years of the Snake: 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013

Next year of the Snake: 2025

“We say that Snake is like the mini Dragon, so that is very popular as well,” says Wang. “They’re very curious and wise, but they can also be jealous and greedy. Snake goes really well with Oxand I actually married an Ox!” Dragons and Roosters are optimal matches for a Snake.

Illustration of animal from the chinese zodiac: Horse

Horse

Birth years of the Horse: 1918, 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014

Next year of the Horse: 2026

The horse has been one of the most influential animals in all of human history, which is why, Wang says, the Horse “is a leader and very generous as well.” People born in Horse years are also said to be talented and energetic. This Chinese astrology sign matches well with Tigers, Goats and Rabbits.

Illustration of animal from the chinese zodiac: Goat

Goat

Birth years of the Goat: 1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015

Next year of the Goat: 2027

Often seen as being followers and not leaders, people born in Goat years are gentle, decent and a little timid. “Goat is actually an animal that a lot of people try to avoid, because Goat always has a hard life,” says Wang, adding that the birth rate tends to decrease in Goat years. If you’re a Goat, you’d be wise to make a match with a Horse, Rabbit or Pig. Even if you’re not the biggest on astrology, these zodiac memes will still probably make you chuckle.

Illustration of animal from the chinese zodiac: Monkey

Monkey

Birth years of the Monkey: 1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016

Next year of the Monkey: 2028

Pretty much everyone loves a Monkey, likely because this is the animal most genetically linked to humans. “Monkey has really good social skills and is very humorous,” Wang says. Those two personality traits also make Monkeys playful and even sometimes mischievous. Ox, who is patient, and Rabbit, who is kind, are ideal matches for this sign.

Illustration of animal from the chinese zodiac: Rooster

Rooster

Birth years of the Rooster: 1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017

Next year of the Rooster: 2029

One can literally and figuratively set their clock by the Rooster, a sign that’s defined by reliability and consistency. For this reason, Roosters tend to do very well in Ox years. “They are also very brave and very entertaining,” Wang says. Ox and Snake are the best matches for a Rooster. When it comes to compatibility, you may want to cross-reference your zodiacs. According to Western astrology, these are the zodiac signs that should never date each other.

Illustration of animal from the chinese zodiac: Dog

Dog

Birth years of the Dog: 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018

Next year of the Dog: 2030

“Dog sign is exactly what you think about dogs,” Wang says of man’s best friend. “Dog is very loyal, playful and selfless.” This sign is also considered practical, much like how the real animal is used for protection or bred by humans for specific purposes. Dog’s best bet for a partner is a Rabbitsomeone who is as kind and loving as they are.

Illustration of animal from the chinese zodiac: Pig

Pig

Birth years of the Pig: 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019

Next year of the Pig: 2031

“The Pig is loving, happy, direct and persuasive,” says Wang. The Pig may have come in last in the emperor’s race, but this animal sign is no slouch. 2019 was the year of the Earth Pig, which was predicted to bring steadiness, wealth and opportunity. (How was it for you?) Tigers, Rabbits and Goats will make a Pig happy.

Illustration of animal from the chinese zodiac: Rat

Rat

Birth years of the Rat: 1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020

Next year of the Rat: 2032

“We normally say Rat is smart, charming and imaginative,” Wang says. “That’s how he got first place.” The Rat secured first place in the emperor’s legendary race by riding on the back of the Ox and jumping off just in time to cross the finish line. This enviable wit is a source of pride for people of this Chinese astrology sign. As it happens, Rat is most compatible with Ox, as well as with Dragon and Monkey.

Illustration of animal from the chinese zodiac: Ox

Ox

Birth years of the Ox: 1913, 1925, 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021

Next year of the Ox: 2033

Duped by the Rat, the Ox came in second place. “Ox is very determined and generous and patient,” Wang says. “Ox is also considered very hardworking.” Those virtues may have helped people born in Ox years through 2021, the year of the Metal Oxbecause in Chinese astrology, your own year is actually considered unlucky. That’s because being born is said to antagonize a Chinese god of fortune named Tai Sui, earning you his curse. “He’s going to be against you,” Wang explains. “You’re trying to fight that monster.” One way to ward off the evils of your birth year is to wear red, an auspicious color in Chinese culture. Snakes, Rats and Roosters are the best matches for an Ox.

Illustration of animal from the chinese zodiac: Tiger

Tiger

Birth years of the Tiger: 1914, 1926, 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022

Next year of the Tiger: 2034

“Tiger is very adventurous,” explains Wang. “[The Chinese] consider people in that year very lucky. The negative side is that Tigers can be kind of dramatic and cocky.” Interestingly, Forbes once did a study of the 400 richest Americans and found a disproportionately large number of them were Tiger babies! Tiger goes well with Dragon, Horse and Pig.

Birth flowers are more than just pretty blooms

Flowers are always pretty, but sometimes they have a deeper personal meaning. Different flowers (and the various colors they come in) are infused with symbolism. As many rose enthusiasts know, there is a world of difference between red and yellow. Birth flowers, particularly, embody personality characteristics, along the lines of characteristics of a zodiac sign, says Kaylyn Hewitt, lead floral designer for The Bouqs Co.

Whether you have the rarest birthday, the most popular birth month or started life under the rarest zodiac sign, consider asking for floral birthday gifts when your special day rolls around. Hewitt says the practice of floriographythe language of flowersspans cultures and thousands of years. Its roots are rumored to stretch to ancient Rome, but modern interpretations are more closely connected with the Victorian love of flower messaging.

Information about birth month flowers can vary. On The Bouqs Co. list, there is a primary and secondary flower. At 1-800-Flowers, most months have two offerings, but some have only one. Raise a glass to summer!

It doesnt matter how old you aresummer is a reason to celebrate. Sure, you may not have the whole summer off anymore, but on the bright side, now youre old enough to have an adult beverage and a different kind of fun. But before you place your order at the bar and make a toast, you might want to consult the stars for the perfect cocktail. Just like your zodiac sign influences your favorite snack and your favorite candy, it also plays a role in which drinks you prefer.

“Using your zodiac sign to determine your summer cocktail is a great way to create a customized drink that fits your celestial energy,” says astrologer and tarot-card readerLiz Simmons. This drink will suit your style, meshing with your innate astrological traits and helping you find the go-to youll order again and again.

Crowd-pleasers for a night out

While each sign has an individual preference, the biggest consideration is your zodiac element, says Simmons. Fire signs, for example, gravitate toward a spicy cocktail with a little extra kick, so you might want to order a pitcher of spicy margaritas for your Aries, Leo and Sagittarius friends. Water signs, on the other hand, prefer something lighter and more refreshing, like white sangria, while earth signs lean toward simple and classic cocktails, since it’s in their fuss-free nature to stick to the basics. As for the air signs, theyll probably do their own thing instead of ordering as a group. (Looking at you, Libra, Aquarius and Gemini!)

Here’s what you should sip for the perfect addition to your summer fun. And hey, who knowswhen placing your order, you might find your zodiac soul mate who loves the same thing and embark on a whirlwind summer romance. (Yes, thats in the stars for the season too!)

This Is What Your Zodiac Element Says About You https://www.rd.com/article/zodiac-signs-elements/ https://www.rd.com/article/zodiac-signs-elements/#respond Thu, 27 Jul 2023 12:00:00 +0000 https://www.rd.com/?p=1668433 Fire, earth, air, water—no, we're not talking about Captain Planet. We're discussing zodiac sign elements and what yours means for you.

The post This Is What Your Zodiac Element Says About You appeared first on Reader's Digest.

You can think of the 12 zodiac signs as neighbors. They each have their own personality and characteristics, meanings based on myths that started in antiquity and have been honed in practice ever since. Each falls into one of four zodiac signs elements: fire, earth, water, or air. These, too, are like a community, says astrologer Alice Sparkly Kat, author of Postcolonial Astrology. Consider how you get along better with some of your neighbors and how you might vibe less with others.

Wherever your sign sits on the zodiac wheel, the fourth sign to its left and the fourth sign to its right will be in the same element. They form a triangle, and as Sparkly Kat says, “the most stable aspect in astrology is the triangle.” This zodiac compatibility is why the best friend for your zodiac sign often shares the same element as you.

You actually have all the zodiac elements in your full natal chart, but knowing your sun sign element is a great starting point. (Your sun sign is determined by the month and day of your birth, and it’s what most people refer to when they ask what sign you are.) It can reveal your zodiac sign’s power color, the best dog breed for you, and even what you should be for Halloween this year. Read on to learn the zodiac signs elements and find out how they apply to you.

Fire Signs: Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius

Bold. Spirited. Passionate. Fire signs are fiery. They’re bright, artistic, and intense. Fire signs are known for their confidence, especially when the going gets tough. Sparkly Kat advises that “fire signs want to think fast on their feet, and they don’t mind pressure.”You’ll find these signs are brave and independent. They’re filled with optimism and the kind of courage that fuels action.

In relationships

Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius in combination create sparks. Fire signs make excellent duos in friendships, romances, or any other kind of partnership. These zodiac signs have adventurous, energetic relationships filled with passionand they’re not scared of conflict. In fact, they may find inspired debate, what some would think of as fighting, totally exciting. Fire signs cultivate community through group projects, where they take the lead and inspire others to act.

Top values

Fire signs take pride in spontaneity. They’re willing to take risks when it comes to finances, occupations, and projects. That’s because they deeply value what makes them feel passionate and enthused. They often value courage in themselves and others. Those are just some of the zodiac signs’ career strengths. If you’re a fire sign, you probably still love the things you bought on a whim. Fire signs are not afraid to splurge, especially if an object inspires its spirit. Make sure you’re not too impulsive!

Self-care strategies

Fire signs best engage in self-care through impromptu creativity. Pull out paints and create something vibrant and abstract. Sports with a competitive edge, even if it’s beating your own personal best, are also enjoyable. Fire signs thrive with instinctive action. A campfire or candle flames may prove to be a great way to relax. Follow your bliss.

Earth Signs: Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn

Grounded. Cultivated. Practical. Earth signs are definitely down-to-earth. They are the gardeners of the zodiac. And they probably think of everything as a garden, from their family to their friendships. Earth signs recognize that communities need care, tending, and feeding. “When you’re an earth sign, you want to build something slowly,” says Sparkly Kat. “You don’t have to see results tomorrow; you believe in the long haul.”

In relationships

When Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn get together, the chemistry is fueled with mutual respect for one another’s rationality. Every community needs level-headed earth signs to remember the details and to keep everyone’s feet on the ground. When it comes to romance, earth signs will recognize in each other a steady realism that they can depend upon. And you can bet every friend group or work cohort needs an earth sign to keep everyone on task and focused.

Top values

Earth signs value having their ducks in a row. They also care about details. If you’re an earth sign, you might remember everyone’s birthdays, their favorite kinds of cake, and the best gifts for their zodiac signs. You value possessions that will last and luxuries that are worth the money because they were created with care. Earth signs value sustainability, secret ingredients, and classics that endure. Be careful of being too materialistic. One thing about earth signs is they’re practical, but they also go big when it matters to them.

Self-care strategies

If you’re an earth sign, you’re mindful of tending to others, but it’s also important to take good care of yourself by choosing a hobby that fits your zodiac sign. Gardening, in various forms, is an ideal pastime. Plant seeds. Get your hands in the dirt. Walk barefoot on grass and earth. That’s the kind of self-care that makes you feel right at home.

Air Signs: Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius

Witty. Social. Intellectual. Air signs (one of them being the rarest zodiac sign) can be a touch spacey. Their heads are in the clouds or thinking through solutions or pondering the future. Sparkly Kat explains that when you’re an air sign, “you’re influenced easily by other people, but you listen to others equally because you listen to everyone and have interesting ideas bouncing around.”

In relationships

Air signs often find challenges the most interesting aspects of relationships of any sort. They’ll be wooed by partners or friends who keep them curious. They’ll also appreciate someone who is really great at talking. When it comes to groups, air signs want to work for the greater good, and they love partieseven if they sometimes watch from a distance so they can think about what’s best for the group as a whole.

Top values

If you’re a Gemini, Aquarius, or Libra (one of the most polite zodiac signs), your two favorite things are likely people and ideas. Of all the zodiac signs elements, this one yields wonderful teachers and party planners. Both activities cultivate community and allow air signs to express their passions. They can imagine a better world, and they are most fulfilled when they can get busy creating it. They sometimes run the risk of too much detachment, so they value things that are truly meaningful or highly functional.

Self-care strategies

Air signs tend to be anxious because they’re always thinking. Great self-care practices include puzzles of any kind. Focus can soothe an air sign’s racing mind. They also appreciate calmness. Sitting outside in a cool breeze is an ideal way to relax. Remember to eat and hydrate and let yourself get swept away by music. These are other great ways to de-stress based on your zodiac sign.

Water Signs: Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces

Imaginative. Emotional. Intuitive. Water signs flow. They are naturals when it comes to fluid motion as they go through their days. If you’re a Cancer, Scorpio, or Pisces, you’re likely very in touch with your emotions. “You want to be of service in some way toward your community,” says Sparkly Kat of water signs. “You’ll play an important role, but maybe you’re not the loudest voice.”

In relationships

Water signs are very nurturing in relationships of all kinds because they’re naturally empathetic. They tend to have a strong intuitive sense about everyone’s needs, like the best compliments for a given person’s emotional needs. It’s easy for water signs to form deep connections because of their sensitive nature. They’re likely to respond if someone reaches out, and it’s super important for them to connect and feel connected.

Top values

When it comes to zodiac signs elements’ sentimentality, Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces take the cake. They have a reputation for being dreamy but don’t mistake that for ineffectual. Water signs are intense and deep. They’re detectives of the psyche and the soul. They make wonderful creatives, psychologists, marine biologists, or tarot card readers. Water signs love beauty, art, and anything that moves themthat’s where they find value in life.

Self-care strategies

If you’re a water sign, you may have a tendency to be overwhelmed by empathy. Boundaries are essential for self-care. Block off “you” time and stay committed to space so you can recharge and renew. Get yourself a luxury bath bomb, dim the lights, let the steam rise, and take a long soak. You’re sure to feel rejuvenated. Of course, swimming or hanging out by the beach or a lake will also prove naturally soothing.

Finding love through your Venus sign

Looking for a love that rivals the very best romance novels? It might sound too good to be true, but believe it or not, there is a way to find your own star-crossed romance: knowing your Venus sign. Astrology can tell you a lot about your own personality, and it can answer all your deepest burning questions about dating and love. It can also guide you to the ideal best friend for your zodiac sign.

And while finding “the one” in the modern dating scene certainly isn’t easy, looking at your birth chart to learn more about your rising sign, your sister signsand specifically your Venus sign meaning can show you what you need from a partner to feel satisfied in love.

“Venus relates to the concept of pleasure and everything that brings it to us,” says astrologer Narayana Montfar. “While other planets like Mars and Saturn challenge us, Venus grants us some of the most positive moments as well as life experiences.” Looking at zodiac compatibility can help you find your better half, but your Venus sign holds the secrets behind what makes you swoon.

So what is a Venus sign, exactly?

Each planet in your birth chart represents a different side of your personality. For example, your sun sign can show how you express your deepest heart desires, while your rising sign is the energetic aura that other people see when they first meet you. And if you’re looking to learn more about your astrological love language, Venus is the go-to planet. “Venus reminds us of the beauty in all our connectionsnot just the erotically charged ones,” explains astrologer and columnist Rebecca Farrar. Understanding these differences can help you determine things like romantic compatibility and the most trustworthy zodiac signs for you to date.

In astrology, Venus is the planetary ruler of all the things we desire like love, money, art, beauty and relationships. Along with governing how we internally process our feelings, the placement of your Venus sign is key to determining long-term compatibility.

Your Venus sign can also explain how you deal with breakups. If you’ve ever had an ex that won’t stop calling your phone, there’s a chance their Venus sign is to blame. So which Venus signs are the most clingy? Most experts agree that Water Signs (Cancer, Scorpio and Pisces) tend to be the clingiest of the bunch, however the Fire Signs (Aries, Leo and Sagittarius) also have a bit of a reputation for being overbearing in love.

How do I find my Venus sign?

Finding your Venus sign is simple. You’ll just need to create a copy of your birth chart using an online Venus sign calculator like this one from Astro Seek. Or if you already know your and your potential love interest’s birth chart info, you can use a calculator like this oneto see your complete compatibility score.

Once you’ve input the required information (time of birth, city of birth and birthday), you will find out what your Venus sign is. Then, using our zodiac romance compatibility guide below, read up on which Venus signs astrologers say make the best match.

These Are The Funniest Zodiac Signs Ranked

Which is the funniest zodiac sign?

While it’s not a competition (sorry, Aries) and every zodiac sign has its own unique cosmic comedy style, some zodiac signs are funnier than others. In fact, they seem born to make people laugh out loud, much like people who are inherently trustworthyorpolite. Some signs are also particularly adept at pulling pranks while others steer clear for fear of upsetting anyone. So, have the stars aligned to give you the title of the funniest zodiac sign?

Before we answer that question, we need to remind you that funny comes in many different formsfrom snarky and self-deprecating to witty and flat-out hilarious. And it all boils down to yourzodiac elementand planetary ruler, says astrologer Liz Simmons. For each, consider their overarching characteristics. For example, water signs tend to be more emotional and, therefore, good at making light of feelings, while earth signs have a more grounded sense of humor. And signs ruled by Venus might crack jokes about love or beauty standards, while those ruled by Mercury, the planet of communication, might have a quicker wit and make more timely jokes.

To find out where you rank and which type of humor you excel at, scroll through the 12 signs below, which we’ve listed in order from the funniest zodiac sign to the least funny zodiac sign. Lower down on the list? Dont worryit doesnt mean youre not funny! (Well, not always.) But it does mean you need to find people who appreciate you and your unique brand of humor. That knowledge can play a big role in zodiac compatibility, finding theideal best friend and even which zodiac memesyou think are hilarious. Knowing your strengths and weaknesses when it comes to dishing out the funny can also strengthen your relationships, making sure you dont go too far with a joke.

Year of the Rabbit: What 2023 Has in Store for You https://www.rd.com/article/year-of-the-rabbit/ https://www.rd.com/article/year-of-the-rabbit/#respond Tue, 17 Jan 2023 21:04:03 +0000 https://www.rd.com/?p=1797535 The Year of the Rabbit might bring hope and prosperity your way—as well as a few surprises. Here's when you can expect luck to be on your side.

The post Year of the Rabbit: What 2023 Has in Store for You appeared first on Reader's Digest.

]]>
The last time it was the Year of the Rabbit, astrologer Jen Ingress found a new home. Like a rabbit deciding on the perfect spot to create a burrow, she was faced with a barrage of options. “It was hard for me to decidethere were many pros and cons,” she says. “I’m not saying that the Rabbit is indecisive. It just may not be entirely obvious what is the right decision when making a choice, and you might have to do some thinking like I did.”

That was 2011, and it was a year marked by decisionssomething that will also characterize 2023’s Year of the Rabbit, which starts when the Lunar New Year kicks off on the second new moon after the winter solstice. (This year, it falls on Sunday, Jan. 22.) There will also be a need for grace when it comes to interactions with others. This is quite different than last year’s Tiger year. Think of it this way: “Tigers can take on anything and bring courage, a strong moral code and responsiveness,” says Ingress. “Whereas this year, we can anticipate more diplomacy or more cautious approaches on the world stage and for individuals.”

But thats not all: InChinese astrology, there arent just12 astrology signsbut alsofive zodiac elements, and this year, that element is Water. Its the first time there’s been a Water Rabbit in 60 yearsand the last one, back in 1963, changed the course of American history. So, what will 2023s Year of the Water Rabbit hold for you? Lets find out. Then, once you’re up to speed, check out the Chinese New Year traditions that can help you start 2023 on the right foot.

GetReader’s DigestsRead Up newsletterfor more zodiac insights, humor, cleaning, travel, tech and fun facts all week long.

Rabbit zodiac personality traits

Rabbits are known for being cute, lovable and high-spirited (not to mention bouncy), but they’re also a bit enigmatic. After all, you can never really tell what they’re thinking because they don’t exhibit a variety of facial expressions. “Rabbits are well-liked, but they’re not that easy to read or transparent,” Ingress notes. “These individuals are socially graceful, charming and diplomatic, but they also need time to themselves.”

A potential pitfall for Rabbit people is that like an actual rabbit, they will tend to seek an easy escape when put on the spot or might not want to face the reality of the situation. And that’s definitely something to keep in mind when entering an entire year represented by this animal.

How 2023’s Year of the Rabbit will affect you

In general, Rabbit years abound with creativity and an appreciation for the arts. You might feel yourself being pulled toward exploring museums, music festivals and performances. In social gatherings, the Year of the Rabbit will encourage more cordiality and social niceties. If disputes arise, diplomacy will win out. Chances are, you’ll also face many options, but like the rabbit’s burrow, you should have multiple exit points and not get too attached to specific decisions. “Rabbits always like having a plan B,” Ingress says. “So this is a year to have more than one plan Band [to have] continued social interactions in order to reach a decision.”

Illustration of a yellow wave icon on dark red background with decorative border and text: "Zodiac Element Water"

Now let’s turnto 2023’s zodiac element, water, which signifies travel and movement. While 2022 was also a water year, it was more of a flood. People were itching to get back out into the world after COVID restrictions were lifted, so there was movement in the form of travel. On another note, the Russian invasion of Ukraine forced people to seek refuge in other countries. The element of water paired with the Tiger sign made the year one that required quick reactions and strong responses in the face of upheaval.

In comparison, the Year of the Water Rabbit will feel more like a small stream when it comes to going places and, more generally speaking, the movement in our lives. “This year will bring learning opportunities, an expansion of ambitions, more time reaching for goals and a general sense of curiosity,” says Ingress. However, because of the unpredictable nature of water, the world might still feel precarious in 2023. The last time there was a Water Rabbit, in 1963, President Kennedy was assassinated, notes Ingress. It was a moment felt by many but not an event that moved the masses to make tough decisions. So this year, it will be important to stay alertbe ready to manage surprises and get comfortable with uncertainty in your life and the world.

Which signs will thrive in the Year of the Rabbit?

The Chinese zodiac signs that will have a great year are those that are compatible with the Rabbitnamely, the Sheep, Dog and Pig. Each of these signs will see a wealth of opportunities for growth in their careers, relationships or creative passions. That said, not all opportunities will pan out: Like in the rabbit’s race with the turtle, do not be deceived by appearances when it comes to decision makingwhat appears to be the best decision might not be so. Specifically, Dogs and Pigs might face difficult decisions in the workplace.

For all these signs, it is important to stay calm this year, even when things seem to be going well. Of course, that’s usually easier said than done, though these animal signs are the best equipped to face that challengeespecially when in one another’s company.Pig and Rabbit are a perfect match for each other in terms of temperament and personality. Add Sheep and Dog into the mix and you’ve got yourself a party. “When they’re all together, they balance each other out,” says Ingress. People with these signs tend to have an easygoing way about them and are deeply compassionate, and both of those qualities jibe with the Rabbit. Sheep’s romanticism, Dog’s supportiveness and Pig’s relatability work well with Rabbit, and a gentle yet responsive energy will radiate from groups of friends with these signs.

Which signs will have more difficulty in the Year of the Rabbit?

Sorry, Dragons, Snakes, Roosters and Ratsyou will clash with the Rabbit energy this year. Dragons are born leaders and enjoy conquering challenges, but an eagerness to achieve will not pan out in the slower-paced Rabbit year where decisions will have to be deliberated carefully and a person’s choices might have to be revisited.

Snake is sometimes considered a small dragon, and similarly, their determination may prove challenging this year. Rooster is also tenacious and high-achieving, as an animal known for greeting the morning sun. Finally, the resourceful and quick-witted Rat may be able to adapt to the surprises the Year of the Rabbit brings, but their lack of courage may cause them to falter when plans change.

But don’t worryall is not lost for these signs in 2023. According to Ingress, a specific Chinese zodiac year won’t predict whether luck comes your way or doesn’t, but rather whether the year will be like a river that is “smooth flowing or one that is more choppy and therefore stressful, with multiple obstacles to face.” Organizing your home according to the principles of feng shui is one way to help you deal with the stress life brings.

How will the other signs fare in the Year of the Rabbit?

People born in Ox, Horse and Goat years generally won’t experience any extreme highs or lows in 2023. Ox’s determination and Horse’s energy should be able to handle what the year throws at them. Comparably, Goat’s perseverance should propel them through what’s thrown their way. But Tigers may face some ups and downs. Tiger’s enthusiasm and boldness may or may not work to their advantage when it comes to the surprises a Rabbit year brings.

As for people with the Rabbit sign, things are a little less clear-cut. You may have heard that a person’s zodiac birth year (Ben Ming Nian) can be extremely unlucky. So, should Rabbits watch their backs this year? Not necessarily. Ingress notes that this idea comes from another Chinese belief that change will occur every 12 years, in the Jupiter cycle of a person’s life. “That change could be positive or negative,” she shares. “But there is a change.”

Lucky times of the year for each sign

What do the tides of the Water Rabbit hold this year? Scroll down and find your Chinese zodiac sign to learn which months in 2023 will be the most prosperous for you.

Rat

Birth years: 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008, 2020

People born in the Year of the Rat will likely experience abundance throughout the Year of the Water Rabbit, because like Rabbits, Rats are able to form networks and connections. In May, Rats will feel appreciated by others, and next January, Rats will have an opportunity to grow their wealth.

Ox

Birth years: 1937, 1949, 1961, 1973, 1985, 1997, 2009, 2021

For those born in the Year of the Ox, December will be a lucky month. Ox people will feel a sense of balance throughout the year, without many highs or lows, though June and April may be trickier for them.

Tiger

Birth years: 1938, 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, 2010, 2022

March will be the luckiest month for those born in the Year of the Tiger. May, on the other hand, might be more challenging. Overall, Tiger people will find themselves more in the middle of the road in 2023, faring well but not experiencing extraordinary success.

Rabbit

Birth years: 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011

Get ready, Rabbits: Your lucky month is right around the corner! You’ll find increased luck in February, as well as in July. You might find yourself making less forward movement in April, June, September and December. Water Rabbits born in 1963 should be careful, as too much water elementally can be difficult to bear and cause stress. Check out these zodiac memes when you need a laugh.

Dragon

Birth years: 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012

May and September will be fairly good months for Dragons, but they should be cautious in March, April, October and January. “The Dragon is struggling,” Ingress acknowledges. But, she adds, this should not be a cause for concern, because “in Buddhist tradition and the history of the Asian culture, there is a sobering tendency to acknowledge suffering more than success because successes are typically few and far between.”

Snake

Birth years: 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013

Snake people may have a more trying year because their energy clashes with Rabbit energy, and they will have to deal with more conflicts throughout the year. April is their luckiest month of 2023, when they could attract more attention from colleagues or romantic interests.

Horse

Birth years: 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002, 2014

The outlook for Horses in 2023 is a steady one, but they should proceed with a bit more caution in March and January. In February, there will be opportunities to develop relationships, and November looks to be the month where they will find the most luck. Those born in the Year of the Metal Horse (the last one was in 1990) should be more cautious about impulsive decisions this year.

Sheep (or Goat)

Birth years: 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991, 2003, 2015

Sheep will find opportunities throughout the year but especially in March, June and November. Just be warned that October and next January may be less steady. Wood Sheep, born in 1955 and 2015, will find this year to be one of growth.

Monkey

Birth years: 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004, 2016

September will be an optimal month for Monkeys. On the other hand, they should be wary in May, July and November, as surprises from the Water Rabbit might lead them to make rash decisions.

Rooster

Birth years: 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005, 2017

Rooster people might experience a turning point during the year when it comes to their health, career or finances. For the Rooster, April and August are shaping up to be months in which they will fare the best. September and December will pose more challenges for them.

Dog

Birth years: 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006, 2018

While Dogs will experience many opportunities throughout 2023, they won’t all culminate in success. November may change all that, as that’s this sign’s luckiest month this year. September is the one month when they might feel their career trajectory take a downward turn.

Pig

Birth years: 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019

If Pigs focus their energy in March, July, August and October, their concentration should pay off. Born in 1935 or 1995? Those are the years of the Wood Pig, and people born then will be particularly lucky in 2023.

In a world full of uncertainty, it’s common to look for meaning in the details and patterns present in our everyday lives. Perhaps you’re someone who always looks at the clock at 11:11, or you encounter number sequences like 777 or 222 all the time. These numerical patterns can be known as angel numbers, a type of sign from the universe. And they might not just be serendipitousthey could be trying to tell you something through the angel numbers’ meaning.

“Angel numbers are significant because they catch you off guard, and it’s not something that you can seemingly control with your conscious mind,” says Andrea Shakarian, a chiropractor and hypnotherapist who is certified in angel intuitive readings. As with zodiac compatibility and other topics related to the cosmosthink Chinese zodiac and astrology signs, zodiac power colors and zodiac elementslearning about angel numbers’ meaning and how they relate to your life is just another way to make sense of the world around you, like the best cosmicself-help books. What are angel numbers?

Angel numbers are repeating numbers or number sequences, like 1111, 555, 222 or 777, says Linda Berry, a professional angel whisperer and numerologist. She believes they’re messages from our personal celestial team of angels, “either used to get our attention, remind us of something important in our lives or confirm something that we’ve been curious about,” she says.

But angel numbers are typically more persistent than the one-off glance at a clock timed 11:11. Much like the stars and astrological readings can dictate our personalityor our career strength, according to our zodiac signangel numbers relay important information about our lives. “They will usually show up and catch our attention on at least three separate occasions in a specific period of time,” says Berry. And if that same number shows up over and over, she says we’re receiving a message that should not be ignored.

Berry is not the only one who believes angel numbers areused as an instrument for communication between you and your guardian angel. According to astrologer Matthias Dettmann, angels use signs, send spiritual signals or use numbers to communicate. “Through the study of numbers, you can interpret divine messages that can come in number sequences of two, three, four and other number patterns that angels choose to use,” he says.

Do angel number sequences have meaning?

Sequences of three (like 555 and 777) or four (like 1111) are considered popular angel number patterns. According to Berry, there is a difference in significance between the patterns. Single-digit numbers, she says, signify that “the universe is offering support and angels are helping us.” When the number doubles, it’s believed that the angel involvement also doubles. “It shows angels surrounding us with love and protection, ensuring safety.” As for three- and four-digit sequences, Berry says many consider this to be a sign that miracles are happening, obstacles are being lifted or tables are turning in a favorable position.

However, according to Shakarian, “there is no difference in power or significance between these different patterns, just that they are trying to alert you or get your attention.”

The Meaning Behind Angel Numbers Infographic

What is the history behind angel numbers?

“There are many hypotheses about the origins of angel numbers, but no one has a confirmed history except to rely on Pythagoras,” says Dettmann. Pythagoras was an ancient Greek philosopher who lived between 570 and495 B.C. and is often credited for creating the basis of numerology, which is the study of numbers and their inherent meaning (and the science behind angel numbers’ meaning).

In the early 2000s, an author name Doreen Virtue helped popularize the concept of angel numberseven coining the termthrough her dozens of books on the subject, including Angel Numbers 101. Virtue brought the concept further into mainstream consciousness and opened up a world for people to explore and investigate signs through numerical sequences.

How do you find your angel numbers?

Dettmann says the simplest method to find your angel numbers (and your angel numbers’ meaning) is to keep a record of the numbers you see most often. “Narrowing down the record will give you your angel number,” he says. Your number might not always be the same and, according to Shakarian, can change based on what’s happening in your life. “If your guides are really trying to catch your attention, you can even see different number patterns multiple times on the same day,” Shakarian adds.

What are the angel numbers’ meanings?

Angel number combinations can vary, but the most common ones are 000, 1111, 222, 333, 444, 555, 666, 777, 888 and 999. Experts believe each of these numbers is considered a sign from guides or guardian angels, and each has its own unique energy and message. Here are the most common angel numbers’ meanings.

000

“This is a high-vibration number and signifies a new beginning and perfection,” Dettmann says. Some people also see 000 and feel the need to pause or slow down before a change occurs.

1111

1111 is an angel number many people notice often, as it frequently appears on clocks and watches and is considered very lucky. According to Dettmann, when you see 1111, it means you are on the right path.

222

The angel number meaning behind 222 is an indication of great hope, harmony and trust, says Dettmann. Berry believes it can also mean positivity and balance.

333

If you see the sequence 333 often in your life, Dettmann says it’s a very jubilant sign and is directly connected to “divine creativity and growth.”

444

Angel number 444 ensures you have the proper guidance from your guardian angel as a direct result of your honesty, says Dettmann.

555

The 555 sequence can feel very comforting, as it signals an upcoming transitional phase and encourages freedom from fears, says Dettmann.

666

The number sequence 666 often has a negative reputation, but it is actually quite positive as far as angel number meanings are concerned, says Dettmann. “This angel number is all about focused activities that your guardian angel wants you to perform.”

777

Similar to the luckiest and unluckiest months based on your zodiac sign, 777 is an angel number often associated with luckespecially when it comes to gambling. But according to Dettman, it’s also the most mystical of the angel numbers. “It’s related to pure and direct divine guidance,” he says.

888

And while 777 might be lucky, it’s actually 888 you want to look out for as a financial sign from the angels. “This angel number is associated with financial luck and a path to financial success,” says Dettmann.

999

If you see 999, you’re receiving a sign from angels telling you to convert negativity into positivity, says Dettmann.

What should I do after seeing an angel number?

When you see an angel number, Dettmann suggests interpreting its impact and showing your gratitude for the message. If you see the angel numbers pop up frequently, it’s definitely a message that should not be ignored, says Berry. “It’s like a beacon from our celestial team of angels getting our attention to remind us or confirm something in our lives,” she says.

When we acknowledge the angel numbers and take in the message connected to them, we work alongside our angels, Berry says, “which will result in progress and create improvements and changes in the direction of our life path.” For more inspiration, check out thesespiritual quotesand uplifting quotes.

How are angel numbers related to the zodiac?

If you’re into astrology signs, traits, dates, zodiac inspirational quotesand more, you might wonder if angel numbers have anything to do with astrology. Although you can’t technically find your angel number or numbers based on your zodiac sign, Berry says they are still directly connected. “Each of the planets in our solar system has an angelic being associated with it, known as archangels,” she says. And these angels also rule over the zodiac, which is associated with the 12 constellations.Within this, the angels are responsible for communicating with numbers to refer information to the birth chart. “Archangels help us to understand our individual birth sign personalities and the blueprint of our souls, bringing the same aspect of the numerology connections to the world of astrology,” Berry says.

The Best 4th of July Celebration for You, Based on Your Zodiac Sign https://www.rd.com/article/4th-of-july-zodiac/ https://www.rd.com/article/4th-of-july-zodiac/#respond Thu, 16 Jun 2022 16:24:14 +0000 https://www.rd.com/?p=1737157 What’s the best way to ring in America's birthday this year? The answer lies with your zodiac sign.

The post The Best 4th of July Celebration for You, Based on Your Zodiac Sign appeared first on Reader's Digest.

]]>

The 4th of July is almost here, and you know what that meansthrowing an epic barbecue, complete with 4th of July games, and catching the best fireworks display in your area. Or maybe it means planning a 4th of July weekend getaway with your bestiesor ditching the crowds and watching a patriotic movie on your own. Of course, theres no one way to celebrate Americas big birthday, and on your day off, you deserve to do exactly what makes you happy. What is that, exactly? Your zodiac sign can help you figure that out.

“The zodiacgives us a great deal of insight into how a person unwinds,” says astrologist Andrea Scalisi. “Asign’s element, ruling planet, and modality will paint a remarkably accurate picture of itsideal celebration experience.

Although each of us is unique, our sun sign helps shape our personality and the types of activities that tickle our fancy. You might be outgoing or reserved, laid-back or more regimented, intellectual or sentimental, and that will influence your definition of the perfect holiday weekend. Your rising sign can further tweak your idea of fun. From backyard bashes blasting patriotic songs to quiet solo time by the lake, these are the best ways to celebrate the 4th of July, according to your zodiac sign.

Aries (March 21April 19)

The ideal celebration for this fire sign involves something active, high energy, and maybe a tad competitivebut nothing fancy. “Aries are straight shooters who like to be in charge,” Scalisi explains. “So, instead of waiting around for an invitation this July 4th, Aries will be much happier hatching a plan themselves.” That said, people born under this sign typically don’t have the patience for more elaborate party planning. They’d prefer to ring in America’s birthday with a simple backyard barbecue, filled with plenty of fun outdoor games to keep them entertained.

Taurus (April 20May 20)

“Taurus is a grounded earth sign, but it’s also under the influence of Venus,” Scalisi notes. This means that Taureans are romantics at heart who enjoy the finer things, and they’re also major foodies. With that in mind, a Taurus will likely want to skip the big 4th of July bash and instead celebrate with a luxurious, indulgent, and intimate picnic. “Taurus will love putting on a great spread, popping a few bottles, and sprawling out on plush blankets,” says Scalisi. “An out-of-the-way spot with beautiful scenery and a nice view of the fireworks will allow Taurus to sit back, sip, and connect with their partner or besties.”

Gemini (May 21June 20)

According to Scalisi, Geminis love a good timeand the 4th is the perfect celebratory opportunity for them. “This air sign is ruled by Mercury, which makes them intellectual, expressive, and curious,” Scalisi explains, adding that Geminis are always looking for a good reason to get out of their routines. Her suggestion? A spontaneous road trip with a few of their favorite people. This will appeal to Gemini’s sense of adventure and love of new experiences. “The destination doesn’t even matter,” she says. “Meeting people, exploring different places, and trying new things will keep Gemini’s mind stimulated.”

Cancer (June 21July 22)

“Cancer is going to feel most comfortable in familiar surroundings over the holiday,” says Scalisi. A water sign that’s ruled by the moon, Cancer is one of the more intuitive and emotional signs of the zodiac, and since they feel so much, rowdy celebrations can grate on Cancer’s nerves. This sign will be happier at home, making memories with friends and family. “Sentimental Cancer will find creative ways to make the day special with outdoor movies, fun crafts, and patriotic cocktails,” Scalisi explains.

Leo (July 23August 22)

Leos love a celebration that’s a little extra, and they often find themselves at the center of the action. This fire sign is ruled by the sunsomething that tends to shine through their personalitiesand according to Scalisi, they live for a good beach party. “As the ruler of the House of Pleasure, there’s nothing Leo loves more than entertaining friends and family,” says Scalisi. “When they’re not soaking up attention [on the beach], Leos will channel their lazy lion and sprawl out in the sunshine for a nap.”

Virgo (August 23September 22)

“Virgo will take a down-to-earth approach to the holiday weekend,” Scalisi says. “Ruled by the planet Mercury and the earth element, Virgo is all about internalizing knowledge and seeking improvement. In other words, they have little use for frivolity, preferring order to chaos.” For these reasons, Virgos will want to celebrate the 4th of July by doing something low-key, such as attending a 4th of Julythemed lunch with friendsand they’ll nominate themselves for appetizer duty for an easy contribution. “Once this introvert has had enough socialization,” Scalisi adds, “Virgo will most likely spend their holiday getting caught up on their to-do list.”

Libra (September 23October 22)

Libras love social celebrations with a good mix of new and familiar faces. “They are ruled by the air element, which makes them excellent conversationalists, plus they’re under the influence of Venus, so they possess plenty of natural charm,” says Scalisi. They’d particularly enjoy ringing in the 4th of July with a festive pool party, since balance-seeking Libra likes connecting one-on-one with others, sharing personal stories, and making people laugh. Libras also love teaming up for pool party games, because they appreciate the connection they invokebut don’t try to cheat, because they are all about fairness.

Scorpio (October 23November 21)

Ruled by the water element and under the influence of Pluto, Scorpios have great emotional depth and are deep thinkers who don’t skim the surface of any subject. That’s why, Scalisi says, “Scorpio may consider a trip to national historic sites and memorial parks this Independence Day.” They might also want to listen to a history podcast on their way there or learn some new4th of July facts.

But don’t get us wrongthey’d still enjoy a good celebration to go along with an education-packed day. In fact, when they do turn their attention to celebrating, they’ll go all out, “sparing no expense to create a memorable experience for their crew.” Translation: You won’t find Scorpio simply lighting sparklers. Instead, they’ll grab their friends and secure the best viewing spot at one of the more extravagant fireworks displays in the area.

Sagittarius (November 22December 21)

“Sagittarius is a hard-core freedom lover, so of course, they’ll appreciate a holiday like the 4th,” says Scalisi. “This sign is ruled by Jupiter, which gives them a happy disposition and a desire for personal expansion.” This fire sign loves spending time outdoors, unconfined and free from all responsibilities and commitments. For the 4th of July, Scalisi suggests attending an outdoor music festival. “The atmosphere of live music, sunshine, and happy people will delight this enthusiastic sign,” she explains.

Capricorn (December 22January 19)

“Capricorn will choose quality over quantity, preferring a private event with friends over a crowd of strangers,” says Scalisi. This earth sign feels most at home in nature, which means they’d particularly love a trip in the great outdoors for the long Independence Day weekend. “Capricorn should consider packing up their gear to enjoy a weekend of camping, biking, or hiking with friends,” says Scalisi. “The hardworking goat will get a kick out of looking down on the fireworks display from a mountaintop.”

Aquarius (January 20February 18)

Aquarius can always find a reason to celebrate with a good party. And while they love to plan, they also love to participate in others’ celebrations. “They are super social and friendly, so party time with friends will inevitably make it into their weekend plans,” says Scalisi. “But the water bearer also enjoys being a little different and truly cares about making the world a better place.” Aquarius will find great joy in giving back to their community on July 4thparticipating in community activities like neighborhood cleanups, donating blood, connecting with local veterans, or contributing to the community garden.

Pisces (February 19March 20)

“Pisces is a mutable water sign that will be first in line to join the festivities when their presence is requestedbut, left to their own devices, they prefer to kick back alone,” says Scalisi. Since Pisces is so deeply empathetic, they need more alone time than most to energetically recover from the business of daily life, and they prefer to engage in a little self-care and bask in their holiday vacation time. Influenced by planet Neptune, they are more dreamy, creative, and emotionally sensitive. “If they can find their way to a natural body of water this holiday weekend, they’ll feel right at home there,” Scalisi notes. Skipping town for some solo time by a lake or river is a great way for Pisces to ring in America’s birthday and enjoy some well-earned solitude.”

The Perfect Mother’s Day Celebration, Based on Your Mom’s Zodiac Sign https://www.rd.com/article/mothers-day-zodiac-sign/ https://www.rd.com/article/mothers-day-zodiac-sign/#respond Fri, 01 Apr 2022 17:10:47 +0000 https://www.rd.com/?p=1716935 These Mother's Day celebrations are written in the stars.

The post The Perfect Mother’s Day Celebration, Based on Your Mom’s Zodiac Sign appeared first on Reader's Digest.

Mother’s Day is right around the corner, which means it’s time to start thinking about how you’ll shower your mom with love on this special day. Sure, you could mail her a card with some Mother’s Day greetings, but she didn’t spend 12 hours in labor with you for a simple Mother’s Day card, did she? (No, she did not.)

If you’re drawing a blank when it comes to Mother’s Day activities, it’s time to look to the stars. Just as your sun sign and rising sign can point to your zodiac sign’s power color or ideal dog breed, they can also indicate how your mom might want to spend her day. Whatever her zodiac sign, she’s bound to love a celebration that is tailor-made for her.

For the best gifts for your mom and solid ideas for how to celebrate Mother’s Day, we went straight to an astrology pro. Here’s how she says each zodiac sign should spend the holiday, plus the Mother’s Day gifts to accompany your plans.

Aries (March 21April 19)

“Aries loves a little healthy competition and to work up a sweat,” says astrologer Sofia Adler. Her recommendation for the best way to spend Mother’s Day with an Aries? “Take your mom for a hike, long walk or even scope out a workout class to do together.”

In addition to treating your mom to a fun day of physical activity, give her a present that’ll speak to her personality. You’ll find plenty of Mother’s Day gifts on Amazon, like a fitness tracker in pretty purple. Add a novelty trophy or certificate that she can proudly hang on the wall. After all, Adler says, Aries are natural leaders and typically rack up a lot of accomplishments in life, motherhood among them.

Taurus (April 20May 20)

According to Adler, a mother who’s a Taurus will prefer “quality over quantity, and really appreciate the finer things in life.” So aim for simple yet exquisite Mother’s Day plans. Adler’s suggestion: Make lunch reservations at an elegant restaurant known for its local, organic produce and fine wines.

Or take Mom out for a day of pampering. Tauruses are all about indulging, so you can’t go wrong with booking a facial or massage at a high-end spa.

Gemini (May 21June 20)

“Your Gemini mom likely doesn’t want to do just one thing, but all the things,” says Adler. She recommends creating “a celebration that allows her to learn something new and feel stimulated from start to finish.” With that in mind, a trip to the local botanical garden could be a hit for Geminis who love to spend time outside in beautifully manicured landscapes. A cooking class is another fun activity she’s bound to enjoy.

And don’t forget the mother in your mother’s life! Be sure to send a thoughtful Mother’s Day gift for Grandma.

Cancer (June 21July 22)

If your mom’s zodiac sign is Cancer, she’ll prefer a Mother’s Day celebration that is intimate and cozy. Planning a fun day at home is a great place to start. “Quality time with the family is of utmost importance,” says Adler, adding that Cancers prefer to do the nurturing rather than be nurtured.

A fun way to spend time at home with your momand tune in to her nurturing sideis to plant a window herb garden together. Or learn how to create floral arrangements from foraged sprigs. At the end of the day, you can curl up to watch Mother’s Day movies.

Leo (July 23Aug. 22)

“Your Leo mom loves to be the center of attention, so be sure to go above and beyond and make the day all about her,” says Adler. “Take her out to a delicious meal at a bustling restaurant and pretend it’s her birthday so that the whole place sings for her when you get to dessert.”

Another fun Mother’s Day celebration for a Leo is a family dance lesson that lets her show off her moves. Or sign her up for a DIY classlike painting or potterywhere she can stretch her creative muscles and have something beautiful to take home. Add on a DIY Mother’s Day gift that you made yourself, and you’re golden.

Virgo (Aug. 23Sept. 22)

Virgos are all about personal growth and development, so your mom is probably “hyper-focused on constantly growing and evolving into the best version of herself possible,” says Adler. “She does this because she wants to be of service to the world, so plan a day that allows you to spend time together while giving back.”

Volunteering at a local food pantry or community garden is a great way to celebrate Mother’s Day. Or you could spend some time putting together care packages and writing notes of encouragement to the recipients. You’ll find tons of gorgeous notecards at places like Target, making this an easy-to-put-together last-minute Mother’s Day gift.

Libra (Sept. 23Oct. 22)

“Libras aren’t always comfortable with letting the day be about them, so make the day about the two of you and your relationship,” says Adler. One way to do that is by indulging in activities you both loveperhaps it’s a beloved activity you inherited from your mothersuch as strolling through an art museum or picnicking in a community park. After all, a Libra’s desire for harmony and balance includes “a love for art, beautiful spaces, and environments,” says Adler.

And yes, your mother will certainly love any Mother’s Day gift basket you buy her, if for no other reason than the fact that it’s from you. But if you really want to speak to her personality, trade it in for a picnic basket that promises an afternoon of bonding.

Scorpio (Oct. 23Nov. 21)

Scorpio mothers “thrive off intimacy and deep connection,” says Adler, adding that this is especially true when it comes to their children. This Mother’s Day, she recommends you choose “a quiet place or stay home for some true one-on-one time, carving out time for an honest heart-to-heart chat.”

It might also be fun to incorporate conversation starter cards into the day’s activity so you can ask each other questions while sipping on some tea or putting together a photo album of pictures of you together. Across the pages add some quotes about moms and mother-daughter quotes.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22Dec. 21)

“The best way to celebrate your Sagittarius mom this Mother’s Day is to make the entire day an adventure,” says Adler, adding that the day will be most successful based on how many risks you take and deep belly laughs you have together. Take your mom back to her hometown and help her see where she grew up through a new set of eyes. Or if that’s not feasible, wander the streets or neighborhoods you’ve never been to before and pop into a hot new restaurant.

However you spend your adventurous day, don’t forget to snap tons of photos for the memoriesor, better yet, gift your mom a fun (and indulgent) Polaroid camera so she can capture her favorite moments and relive the adventure as she relays your Mother’s Day story to her friends. And while you’re at it, maybe plan for a fun class to take together as part of your adventurous day. Sagittarius loves to learn.

Capricorn (Dec. 22Jan. 19)

Capricorns are rooted in tradition and routine, which means you don’t have to break away from the status quo to celebrate your mom this Mother’s Day. “Show her how committed you are to her and your relationship,” says Adler, noting that commitment will earn big points from a Capricorn.

Bring your mom a beautiful bouquet of Mother’s Day flowers with a handwritten card, celebrate her with a brunch reservation at a local winery or somewhere you can have a leisurely lunch, and give her the gift of jewelry that serves as a reminder of how much you love her.

Aquarius (Jan. 20Feb. 18)

“Chances are, your rebellious Aquarius mom doesn’t want you to make a fuss of Mother’s Day,” says Adler. She adds that your mom may believe the celebration is a tad outdated. This might make a Mother’s Day celebration tricky, but it also forces you to get creative.

According to Adler, Aquarius is the sign most likely to be into astrology, so treating your mom to a tarot card reading could be a fun way to spend time together on this day, even if your mom says it’s just another day in the year.

Pisces (Feb. 19March 20)

If you have a Pisces for a mom, Adler recommends committing to spending the day together, but to “avoid making firm plans.” This will allow your mom to “go with the flow, getting lost in a daydream and carried away by whatever strikes her that day and that moment.”

That said, something creative might definitely be in store, as Pisces love to create. If you prefer to plan a little ahead, you could bring supplies to make your own essential oil rollers or candles and allow for some time to experiment freely with different blends as you both let your inspiration guide the day. And get the tears rolling by coming armed with a playlist of mom songs that’ll tug her heartstrings.

Discover the exercise that perfectly matches your zodiac sign's traits.

Some people structure their entire day around their workout and love breaking a sweat. Others dread it. For those who aren’t natural athletes, the best way to stick with a regular exercise routine is to find one that you actually enjoy. “The problem with working out is when you think it’s going to be torture,” says astrologer and astro yoga teacher Emily Ridout. “If you love your workout, then it doesn’t feel like effort.” By learning more about your zodiac signincluding your rising sign and your zodiac elementand your natural inclinations, you can find the ideal workout for you.

This isn’t as strange as it might seem. In fact, astrology and the body have been connected for centuries. “Until the 17th century, you had to take an astrology course in order to get a medical license,” Ridout says. Hundreds of years ago, doctors in Western Europe believed that our physical bodies were connected to the heavenly bodies, and each zodiac sign was related to a specific part of the body. The first sign of the zodiac, Aries, starts at the top of the body and rules the head. The signs go all the way down the body to the last sign of the zodiac, Pisces, which rules the feet and the lymphatic system.

Thinking about your zodiac sign’s core personality traits, as well as its corresponding body parts, can help you find an exercise regimen that’s perfectly suited for you. You should also consider yourzodiac sign’s compatibilitywith others to identify the best workout partner, especially if you want some help sticking with thatNew Year’s resolutionyou made back in January. And no matter what you choose, stock up on the best workout shorts, leggings, sports bras, and other essential gear to get you going in comfort and in style.

Aries (March 21April 19)

Body part: Head

“Aries is a cardinal sign,” Ridout says. “That means it expresses itself by initiating and directing the energy of fire.” Because of that, Ridout believes that the optimal exercise for this fire sign is one that maximizes its incredible energy. Her idea: running. “It’s fast, and it will help them line up with their natural energy and point them in a particular direction,” she explains. To help you enjoy your workout even more, stock up on useful running accessories, like an armband to hold your phone or wireless earbuds. Fast music is great for keeping your adrenaline pumping and helping you get that runner’s high.

Taurus (April 20May 20)

Body part: Neck

“Taurus is the fixed energy of Earth,” Ridout says. “They’ll do well with a workout that has some kind of practical resonance. Walking the dog would be a great thing for them.” While that might be a little less intense than you’d expect for a workout regimen, remember that taking regular walks does burn calories and help people maintain cardiovascular health; research has even found that dog owners live longer than non-dog owners. This activity also connects Taurus with nature, which is essential for this sign’s mental well-being. If this is the push you’ve been looking for to become a pet parent, check out the dog breed that’s perfect for your zodiac sign.

Another way this earth sign can achieve a natural, practical sweat is by doing yard work. Beautifying their surroundings is something Taurus people love to do, and tilling the ground can provide a full-body workout. “They could also lift weights,” Ridout says, “but I think the earth element is really wonderful for them.”

Gemini (May 21June 20)

Body part: Shoulders, arms

Gemini is an air sign that is often described as flighty, but that’s an unfair assessmentthey really just want to be captivated by whatever it is they’re doing. Translation: They’ll give up an activity if they’re not fully invested in it. To keep them entertained, their workouts should be dynamic and fun. They also love to make friends, which is why Ridout suggests some kind of partner or team sport. Gemini energy also corresponds to the shoulders and arms, so Ridout says these areas should be the anchor of the exercise. “Something they should be doing is strengthening their shoulders,” she explains, “so [a sport like] tennis or racquetball would be a good choice.” Other sports that work the shoulders and arms include rowing, baseball, and lacrosse.

Cancer (June 21July 22)

Body part: Front of the heart, breast, stomach

“Cancer has a focus on being strong but also on being fluid,” Ridout says. According to her, people born under this cardinal sign need to find a workout that balances their nurturing character while also strengthening their corethe area of the body to which this sign corresponds. Physically and emotionally, Cancers can only truly function at their highest level when they have a solid, unshakable center. Her suggestions are Pilates or Barre3 exercise regimens. “That would harmonize with Cancer’s natural energy,” she says. “It’s sort of the mixture of sensitivity and strength.”

Leo (July 23August 22)

Body part: Heart, spine

While Aries is the cardinal, directional fire sign, Leo is the fixed fire sign. Think of it as the difference between a sprint and an endurance race. “They contain the fire,” Ridout says of Leo people. “Sometimes it might build within them, in the same way that a furnace would, [and they] can heat themselves up too much.” When Leos think about the right exercise for them, they should keep this in mind, and make sure there is a cooling or resting element to their workout. For them, exercise is about the long haul. That’s why Ridout thinks cycling is a wonderful choice: “It’s going to get their fire flowing, but it’s also going to get a little wind on them. Cycling is a balance of heating up the body through pumping your legs while letting the breeze cool you.” Leos will also be motivated by these zodiac-inspired quotes.

Virgo (August 23September 22)

Body part: Intestines, lower belly

Like the other earth signs, Virgos are very practical. Highly detail-oriented, they are also known as the perfectionists of the zodiac. For this methodical sign, Ridout suggests practicing vinyasa yoga or tai chi, which are all about harnessing the movements of the body for the proper flow of energy. “These are pretty technical,” she says, “and Virgos tend to be very good at understanding the technical aspects of the body. They’ll be very good with a repeatable practice. There’s a certain pleasure in taking the same choreography and making it perfect. [These disciplines] will also be good for their digestive tracts, to keep [the energy] flowing.”

Libra (September 23October 22)

Body part: Lumbar region, buttocks

An air sign like Gemini, Libra also enjoys being in the company of others. Similarly, the ideal workout for this sign would be one that puts them in social situations, and Ridout recommends some kind of partner dance. “That could be ballroom, bachata, salsa, or swing,” she says. Libra people can take dance classes in person or learn moves by watching different types of dance DVDs. A portable, wireless speaker for playing music absolutely anywhere will help them take their booty-shaking workouts on the go, even while on the perfect vacation.

Scorpio (October 23November 21)

Body part: Sexual organs

While a sign like Aries likes to move quickly, Scorpio wants the slow, deep burn. This water sign is all about depth, both emotionally and physically, so their exercise regimen needs to speak to that. “Doing slower-paced things is going to be really good for Scorpio,” Ridout says. “Even though it might not feel like they’re working out and burning a ton of energy, it’s going to bring them back to their state of equilibrium. Scorpio would want to do something that’s more like stretching or yoga.”

Yoga combines deep breathing and stretching to connect the body with the mind. Scorpios should focus on opening their sacral chakra during their exercises. (This is the chakra located between the pubic bone and the navel that holds sexual and creative energy.) According to Well + Good, the sacral chakra also corresponds to the element water, and Scorpio is a water sign. Not into yoga? You can try building up muscle and breaking a sweat by using resistance bands.

Sagittarius (November 22December 21)

Body part: Upper legs

According to Ridout, Sagittarius rules the upper legs, so like Libra, these people will also love dance workouts. Sagittarius is also a mutable signthe astrologer calls it the “swirling fire sign”so they like continuous, flowing motion. “They could do Zumba, for example. Even if they just have 10 minutes to turn on their favorite Spotify station and shake it all out, that’s going to do a lot for Sagittarius.” This sign could take in-person classes, or do their dance workouts at home with the help of DVDs for Zumba or belly dancing. If you’re just freestyling on your own, try incorporating exercise steps to make your workout more challenging, and really concentrate on toning those leg muscles.

Capricorn (December 22January 19)

Body part: Knees, skeletal system

The mountain goat is the symbol of Capricorn, so it makes sense that this earth sign would love to go hiking regularly. “For them, getting out and hiking, climbing up hills, will be one of the best things they can do,” Ridout says. “[It’s about] going toward their goalto see their progress and that they’ve come so far.” According to her, Capricorn is also the sign that rules the knees, so hiking would be beneficial for helping them build strength in that part of the body. Be sure to get a solid pair of hiking boots to help you on your journey up the mountain. If it’s cold or raining, opt for an indoor climbing machine.

Aquarius (January 20February 18)

Body part: Circulatory system, ankles

Aquarius is an innovative sign, and kind of the oddball of the zodiac. “They need to do a workout that is off the beaten path,” Ridout says. “They’re going to need to pick something that’s really fun for them, like martial arts, aerial yoga, or gymnastics.” A standard run on the treadmill just won’t motivate this air sign. Instead, you should get acrobatic with a yoga swing, have a blast pole dancing, or release your pent-up energy by punching a training bag.

Pisces (February 19March 20)

Body part: Feet, lymphatic system

“Pisces is the mutable water sign,” Ridout says, “so they’re at home in water.” Pisces embodies the fluidity of water, so they’ll love being immersed in their natural element. If you don’t have a pool in your backyard, head out to your town’s public pool or sign up for a membership at a gym that has one. Wearing waterproof wrist weights while doing laps or trying water aerobics will help add resistance, strengthening and toning your muscles even more. Now that you have a plan for your optimal workout routine, find out how to make more money this year, based on your zodiac sign.

The post This Is the Rarest Zodiac Sign in the World appeared first on Reader's Digest.

]]>
We tend to cross paths with some zodiac signs more than others. This can often be due to the compatibility of the zodiac signsor which zodiac elements blend well together. As a Taurus, you might have more Virgo or Scorpio friends. And as a Pisces, you might see more Cancers in your friend group.

That said, zodiac trends also have to do with how many people are born under each zodiac sign, since some zodiac signs are more common than others, based on common birthdates. Just like there are the most common zodiac signs, there are also zodiac signs that are rareand one sun sign, in particular, happens to be the rarest zodiac sign.

What is the rarest zodiac sign? Find out, ahead.

What is the rarest zodiac sign?

The 12 signs of the zodiac all come with a set of unique personality traits and are special in their own ways (they each even have a corresponding tarot card and connection to your health). But nothing is as special as being the rarest. What is the rarest zodiac sign, you ask?

It is none other than Aquarius, which includes people born between January 20 and February 18. “There are the least amount of births in January and February, making Aquarius the rarest zodiac sign,” says Lisa Stardust, a New York Citybased astrologer and author of Saturn Return Survival Guide: Navigating This Cosmic Rite of Passage.

Aquarius personality traits

As the rarest zodiac sign, those with Aquarius sun signs are “known to be the unique thinkers of the zodiac,” says Stardust. They are also considered “the innovators and originators of fresh perspectives.”

In addition to being the rarest zodiac sign, what sets this sign apart from the other 11 signs of the zodiac is that “they are known to be the watery part of air,” says Stardust. This makes them “logical as well as intuitive.” And they also “have the ability to see where humanity is headed and make moves toward progressing it,” says Stardust. (Perhaps they also know the best way for each zodiac sign to relieve stress?)

What signs are compatible with Aquarius?

When it comes to Aquarius compatibility, Stardust says these signs tend to attract and be attracted to other air signs. “Gemini and Libra tend to be the most compatible with Aquarius, due to the fact that they are able to process their sentiments through communication and thought,” Stardust explains.

Psst! Ever seen angel numbers? Learn what they signify.

What is the most common zodiac sign?

Just like there is the rarest zodiac sign, there is also a zodiac sign that is most common. Stardust says “Virgos, who were conceived on New Year’s during celebration and fun,” are the most common signs of the zodiac. Those who were born between August 23 and September 22 are considered Virgos and are “known to be hard-working, patient, analytical, kind, and diligent,” says Stardust.

The second rarest zodiac sign

According to Stardust, the second rarest zodiac sign is Aries, and after that, it’s Sagittarius, both of which are fire signs. “Aries is the first sign of the zodiac,” says Stardust, noting how this sign tends to have a spark of inspiration that “gets everyone going and moving.” Sagittarius, the third rarest sign of the zodiac, “falls during the autumn season and [they] are known to be adventurous and free-spirited,” says Stardust. Next, also find out which is the funniest zodiac sign.

Ophiuchus might also be the second rarest zodiac sign

Most of us stick with the 12 astrological signs of the zodiacand have since the Babylonians first cultivated the signs of the zodiac over 3,000 years ago. These signs are Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces and are based on 12 constellations in the night sky. But when NASA made some tweaks to the constellation map in 2016, they added a 13th constellation called Ophiuchus and thus prompted the question: Is there a 13th zodiac sign?

No, NASA did not invent a new zodiac sign. In fact, the Babylonians were aware of this constellation and simply chose not to include it in their group of zodiac signs. NASA explained the reason for not adding a 13th sign of the zodiac: Astrology and astronomy are not the same thing, and just because an additional constellation is added to the map doesn’t mean it is added to the zodiac, too.

That said, some still choose to recognize Ophiuchus as the 13th zodiac sign and, because it is rarely used in the world of astrology, it is also believed to be the second rarest zodiac sign. Those who are born between November 29 and December 17 would be considered Ophiuchus (though, according to the traditional 12 signs of the zodiac, those born between November 22 and December 21 are Sagittarius). These Ophiuchus individuals are “known to be the charmers of the zodiac,” says Stardust, adding that they are “very insightful and knowledgeable, as well as magnetic and captivating.”

Next, find out which signs are most trustworthy.

Your zodiac sign can help you understand your preferences and point you to vacations you may not have thought of before. Here’s what an expert in astrology and other spiritual arts has to say.

aries vacation

Aries (March 21April 19)

Aries’ zodiac sign element may be fire, but a vacation to them doesn’t necessarily mean soaking up the sunlight. People born under this sign feel liberated by the excitement of activity. They need to get all of their energy out on vacation so they can return to their daily lives refreshed. “Vacations with lots of activities and action will appeal to Aries’ energetic and outgoing nature,” says Athena Perrakis, founder of Sage Goddess, a spiritual shop and reference source. “Think an all-inclusive resort with outdoor sports activities in an exotic and warm location.”

Kauai, Hawaii, is one of the best vacation spots for combining beautiful nature, outdoor sports, lovely weather, and exotic adventures. Rappel down cliffsides or zip line over lush jungles. Explore all kinds of terrain by going on guided ATV tours or mountain tubing through local waterways. Book your stay at Ko’a Kea Hotel & Resort for a luxurious stay featuring water sports activities.

taurus vacation

Taurus (April 20May 20)

No matter the type of vacation, Taureans better be treated like royalty. They love to be pampered, but they also tend to feel most comfortable when they’re in a familiar place. “Taurus is something of a homebody,” Perrakis says, “so for vacations, they like to have their creature comforts.” Still, she adds, “they do feel wanderlust at times, and especially if they have a fire sign rising or moon, this will be even more pronounced.”

Ritzy retreats are ideal for people born under this sign. “A staycation at a beautiful resort or a lavish vacation to Paris, where the hotel will have all of the amenities in place while they explore, will be very appealing to Taurus,” she says. Treat yourself by staying at the elegant Hilton Paris Opera, situated near the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, and plenty of other French landmarks.

gemini vacation

Gemini (May 21June 20)

A Gemini’s perfect vacation caters to mind, body, and spirit. Gemini love to roamthere’s no destination they won’t circle on their mapsbut the best way for them to enjoy a trip is to get their brains involved. Gemini is, after all, one of the most intelligent zodiac signs. “Gemini is a natural explorer,” Perrakis says. “The most important thing for a Gemini is to feel intellectually engaged, so trips that include sightseeing excursions with guided tours would be a big hit.”

This air sign would love to go on a safari in Africa or explore the incredible biodiversity of the Galpagos Islands. If that sounds like fun, make a reservation at the Galpagos Safari Camp, which puts you in the heart of the jungle. With rooms made to look like massively upgraded tents, it offers an experience that can truly be called luxury camping. It also provides an easy connection to Galpagos cruises and guided safaris.

cancer vacation

Cancer (June 21July 22)

“Cancer is another homebody of the zodiac, so while they may sometimes get excited by the idea of travel, they’re not as excited about the actual process of leaving home for very long,” says Perrakis. This doesn’t mean Cancers are opposed to traveling altogether; they just need the right trip for the right length of time. “Short trips that don’t take them far from home are best, especially ones where they are surrounded by family and friends,” she says. If you’re a Cancer and you have a week or two off from work, split your vacation into blocks of home time and away time.

You aren’t likely to find a Cancer backpacking around Europe or traveling solo around South America. Instead, they’ll probably prefer a few days with the family at Disney World, enjoying the attractions and their favorite Disney foods. There are countless magical hotels and resorts in Orlando, each with its own fun and enchanting theme. Family-oriented Cancers would love to bring their loved ones to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge, which features a close-up view of giraffesright outside your bedroom window!

Leo vacation

Leo (July 23August 22)

Leos take comfort to a whole new level. They don’t want to feel satisfied; they want to be wowed. “Leo loves to travel but only in style,” says Perrakis. “A first-class flight to a magical locale is just as exciting for Leo as the destination itself. When traveling with a Leo, pull out all the stops: chilled champagne on ice in the room, chocolates on the pillows.”

When Leos talk vacation, they’re speaking the language of luxury. Staying in an overwater bungalow in the Maldives is a total slam dunk for this sign. The Senova Jani is a dream stay, with private pools, spa services, and even waterslides that take you directly from your bungalow into the ocean. An alternate accommodation: Rent a private tropical island (within your budget) instead.

virgo vacation

Virgo (August 23September 22)

It is very hard for a Virgo to take a real vacation. The mind of a Virgo is constantly working and overthinking. If this is your sign, you might find yourself in the most beautiful place in the world with your brain back at the office. “Virgo loves to work, so with them, you have to watch out that a vacation doesn’t become another task to completeor that they don’t end up working all vacation long,” says Perrakis. “This means taking Virgo outside of their comfort zone.”

For Virgos to get the most out of a vacation, they have to be totally engaged. Just kicking back on a beach chair for seven days straight will drive them nuts. Try taking your favorite Virgo food and wine tasting in Tuscany, Italy. It’s the country everyone wants to visit for a reason! A vacation like this keeps mouths, hands, stomachs, and brains occupied. Virgos will love learning about the local gastronomy while taking in amazing sights. With its pools, rolling hills, and rustic Tuscan villa decor, Conti di San Bonifacio Wine Resort entices Virgos to stay in the moment.

libra vacation

Libra (September 23October 22)

Libras are all about culture. (They’re also one of the most polite zodiac signs, so if your traveling partner is a Libra, you’re in luck.) They love interacting with others and becoming well-rounded people through these connections. The best bet for a great Libra vacation is to hit major cities in other parts of the world. Tropical vacations won’t be as fulfilling for a Libra as touring the breweries of Berlin, for example. “Libra likes to explore and people watch,” Perrakis explains, “so take them anywhere you’ll find street-side bistros and cafs full of people and movement: tapas in Barcelona; dinner outdoors in Venice along the canal; or wine at sunset on Santorini, gazing at the Mediterranean while tourists dance to local music.”

Indulge in Italian seafood and historic sites when you visit Venice, the so-called Floating City. Take notice of locals and tourists as you walk by Saint Mark’s Basilica, stroll over the Rialto Bridge, or visit the famous Harry’s Bar, where the Bellini cocktail was invented. Experience supreme luxury and Venetian artistic expression when you stay at The Gritti Palace.

scorpio vacation

Scorpio (October 23November 21)

According to Perrakis, Scorpios need some serious R&R. “Scorpio works so hard that the ideal vacation should feel like a pampering experience,” she says. This water sign will feel refreshed by taking a dream beach vacation, complete with a full list of hotel amenities for the ultimate self-care. “Consider a few days on a remote beach with poolside drinks and lavish snacks, all while enjoying a massage poolside.”

If you feel up for a little outing once you’ve gotten enough down time, take the opportunity to immerse yourself in the local culture and its history. “Scorpio enjoys exploring the world and learning hidden knowledge,” Perrakis says. sagittarius vacation

Sagittarius (November 22December 21)

With a natural craving for travel and adventure, Sagittarians make some of the best travel companions for jet-setters. They always want to experience something newin fact, that’s the best New Year’s resolution for this signwhether it’s another mountain to climb or another ocean to cross. The toughest part about vacationing with Sagittarians is trying to get them to go back home! “They are the ones to go hiking with in Sedona or the Grand Canyon, explore Zion, climb Machu Picchu, or backpack through remote parts of the Himalayas,” says Perrakis.

A Sagittarius would be thrilled to spend time in Mrida, the capital city of Mexico’s Yucatn state. Simply taking a walking tour of the La Ciudad Blanca (the White City) or spending Sundays at the street festival in the central plaza are reasons enough to make the trip. But this cultural hub is also the center of ancient Mayan civilization, so Sagittarius will love exploring magnificent ruins and pyramids like Chichn Itz and Uxmal. And swimming in the nearby cenotes is a must! With the city’s stunning, colorful architecture, there is no shortage of beautiful places to stay, but El Palacito Secreto will certainly make you feel like royalty.

capricorn vacation

Capricorn (December 22January 19)

Let a Capricorn plan your vacation, and you’ll have a full itinerary. That’s because Capricorns value educational, enriching vacationsthink museum tours and visits to historic landmarks. “Goal-oriented and driven, Capricorn needs to know what the return will be on their investment of time,” Perrakis says. “Take them on a vacation where they might meet new contacts for their business, and they’re in.” If a Capricorn does business with foreign companies, a trip to one of those countries would allow them to relax as well as play up their greatest career strength: the drive to achieve.

With that in mind, book a trip to Shanghai, China, one of the business capitals of the world. Walk the Bund (a famous strip where historic and modern architecture collide) and take in the glowing nighttime view of the harbor city skyline. Ride to the top of the Shanghai Tower, which is the tallest skyscraper in Asia and the second tallest in all the world. One fantastic country for this sign to visit would be Japan. Not only does the Asian nation have a rich history and fascinating culture, but each of its regions has something different to offer, from skiing in snowy Hokkaido to hiking volcanoes and soaking in natural hot springs in Kyushu. Intellectual Aquarius should start off by hitting the capital city of Tokyo, bustling with people and technological innovation. pisces vacation

Pisces (February 19March 20)

As a water sign, Pisces is the one that would be most happy with a tropical vacation. Pisces love to relax and daydream, so an oceanfront hotel or a cabin by a lake would be ideal. As for vacation activities, kayaking, surfing, and scuba diving are all great choices.

“Think of the Bahamas,” Perrakis says. “Pisces can make their dream of swimming with dolphins come true.” Mostly, Pisces just want to enjoy the wonder of the natural, watery world and get lost in their imaginations. If you’re headed to the Bahamas with a Pisces, the Cove at Atlantis on Paradise Island, nestled between Paradise Beach and Cove Beach, will be a surefire hit.

Post Colonial Astrology Reading The Planets Through Capital, Power, And Labor By Alice Sparkly Kat Via Amazon

A richer understanding of the planets’ meanings

In this book, astrologer Alice Sparkly Kat examines the “etymologies,” the larger historical and cultural meanings, of the traditional planets in Western history. Sparkly Kat asks in the introduction how to make astrology more responsible, and their book offers a way to critique or think differently about the seemingly universally accepted meanings. The book offers a strategy that is queer and inclusive as it considers astrology’s connection to politics and power. Sparkly Kat sees astrology as a way to offer healing and community, but to do so, its history and influence have to be understood so it can be discarded when necessary. This is one of the best astrology books for a deep dive into planetary meaning. Read it to really get to know the two luminaries, the sun and moon, and the traditional planets: Saturn, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Mercury.

A philosophy of astrology as a legitimate phenomenon

Cosmos and Psyche is perfectly fine as a beginner astrologer text,” says drammeh, who finds this book to be a beautiful text that’s “also very heady and philosophical.” Read this for an overview of how planetary archetypes play out on the global stage. Brennan describes this book as a pitch for “astrology as a legitimate phenomenon.” It’s for both an academic and general audience and it demonstrates the ways astrological concepts both correspond to and help describe broad cultural events across history. Keep in mind it’s pretty thickaround 500 pages of rich, philosophical wonder. Richard Tarnas’ work influenced what’s now known as “archetypal” astrology and you can find a related website, Archetypal Explorer, that’s kind of like horoscope books in that it has an interactive interface for daily understanding of your own chart and the larger world’s.

10. Hellenistic Astrology: The Study of Fate and Fortune by Chris Brennan

Hellenistic Astrology The Study Of Fate And Fortune By Chris Brennan Via Amazon

A foundational introduction to ancient texts and techniques

Hellenistic Astrology was my personal introductory text,” says drammeh about this nearly 700-page masterwork that’s an essential read for advanced astrologers and anyone else with a passion for the topic. drammeh recommends jumping around in this book and “not being overwhelmed by the overall page count.” The book is dense and intense, but you can still get into it as an advanced beginner if you have the basics down. Brennan learned Greek to translate ancient astrology works at Project Hindsight which was an inspiration for this work that took ten years to write. Before Hellenistic Astrology, there wasn’t a comprehensive primer on ancient astrology. Translating those ancient texts was so important because they contained techniques such as whole sign houses, the concept of sect, and timing techniques such as profections and zodiacal releasing. These ancient concepts are fascinating and gaining in popularity. Give this one a try if you want to know astrology’s vast history and how to put these techniques into practice. From graphic novels to historical fiction to teen reads and more, these Greek mythology books appeal to a range of readers.

And since Holden was a scholar who knew multiple languages, he could read ancient texts in their original forms. The American Ephemeris 1950 2050 At Noon By Neil F. Michelsen And Rique Pottenger Via Amazon

Tables of planetary movements

Brennan advises that this is one of those astrology books that should be on the shelves of serious astrologers and enthusiasts. It’s basically a book of tables that show the planetary positions on any given day across 100 years. While you can access the planetary transits with apps or astrology software, Brennan offers that there’s something valuable in holding an ephemeris in your hands. Modern software allows you to skip the calculations that most past astrologers had to master. Get this book if you want to go “old school” and have an overview of the planet’s positions that you can see all at once. You can also find an episode called “How to Read an Ephemeris” on The Astrology Podcast that explains how to read these tables. This can be both fun and compelling if you’re interested in astrological timing and applying it to your everyday life.

The post Year of the Tiger: What 2022 Has in Store for You appeared first on Reader's Digest.

]]>
It was a Tiger year when Susan Levitt decided to make the leap from working at an architectural firm to working as a full-time astrologer and tarot card reader. “People kept asking me, ‘Read my cards!'” she recalls. “Could I even make a living doing something like that? I thought,It’s a Tiger year: Go for it!” That was in 1986, a Fire element year. There are fivezodiac elementsinChinese astrology, and while the upcoming year of the Tiger, 2022, will be a Water element year, that same sense of passion, urgency, and boldness applies.

According to Levitt, author ofTaoist Astrology: A Handbook of the Authentic Chinese Tradition, Tiger years such as 2022 are all about going big or going home. This is markedly different from 2021’s year of the Metal Ox, which was all about steady progress, pragmatism, and hard work. When theLunar New Yearkicks off on February 1the second new moon after the winter solsticeit will usher in a time of intense emotions and big decisions. That’s because the Chinese zodiac sign of Tiger is known for its power, daring, and penchant for doing everything on a grand scale. Here’s what you should know going into 2022, the year of the Tiger. While youre at it, learn which Chinese New Year traditions will help you start the year on the right note.

Tiger zodiac personality traits

Tigers are regal, impressive, and ferocious creatures. They are also stealthy and determined hunters. The Tiger zodiac personality reflects all of these traits. People of this Chinese zodiac sign are portraits in courage and leadership. They like doing things their own way, and once they set a goal for themselves, they will do anything to make it happen. However, there are some drawbacks to their incredible zest for life. “Tiger’s negative traits are a tendency to be impulsive, rebellious, and quick tempered,” Levitt says. “When Tiger throws a tantrum, this anger can spread to innocent bystanders.” Tiger years, therefore, can be very explosive times.

How 2022’s year of the Tiger will affect you

As with all Chinese zodiac signs, Tiger years occur every 12 years. (Previous Tiger years include 1950, 1962, 1974, 1986, 1998, and 2010.) Because there are five Chinese zodiac elementsFire, Earth, Metal, Water, and Wooda Water Tiger year occurs every 60 years. The last one was in 1962, and now 2022 will be a Water Tiger year once again. So, what does that mean for you?

Tigers are quick to action, so in 2022, be prepared for situations to change on a dime. According to Levitt, “Tempers flare, drama and excitement reign, and crazy dreams can become reality.” This can apply to personal relationships, career developments, and, on a larger scale, political unrest or social revolution. While there can be great boons that come out of a Tiger year and some zodiac signs may experience wonderful luck, others can easily get burned. There is no middle ground in the year of the Tiger.

This is especially true for Tigers themselves. According to legend, one’s Chinese zodiac birth year (Ben Ming Nian) can be extremely unlucky for them. However, this isn’t always ominousif Tigers can overcome the challenges presented to them in these years, they can still accomplish great things. So while some Tigers may find disaster in 2022, others could very well see their risk-taking pay off. For her part, Levitt thinks that “tigers will be empowered by their year,” although she does warn them to “refrain from overspending or being overly generous with gifts.”

Wondering what Western astrology has to say about 2022? We found out and devised the bestNew Year’s resolutions for each zodiac signbased on that info.

Water Year Of The Tiger

What the Water element means

This year will also be a Water element year. Out of all of the Chinese zodiac elements, Water has the greatest connection to emotions. “Water [is connected to] sensitivity, creativity, being impressionable,” Levitt explains. But don’t forget: Water is also an extremely powerful natural force. “It’s the strongest elementeven stronger than firebecause it can go around any obstacle in its path and not lose its essential nature.”

Since 2022 will be the year of the Water Tiger, it will be a time of very strong, wild emotions. “For some people, that’s liberating,” Levitt says, “and they should take the risk. You always wanted to be a chef? Learn to cook this year. You always wanted to be a writer? Take that writing class.” Sometimes, however, emotional extremes can mean chaos, and some of the negative attributes that come with the Water element can be fear and indecisiveness. These are things each sign will have to contend with and overcome in 2022. While you’re at it, learn what the zodiac elements in Western astrology mean, too.

The most compatible zodiac signs

The Chinese zodiac signs most compatible with Tigerand, thus, most likely to have a good yearare Horse, Dog, and Pig. People with these signs will be most receptive to the year of the Tiger’s creative, wild, and intense energy. Horse’s liveliness, Dog’s idealism, and Pig’s courage all vibe well with Tiger. These are the signs that will most likely be rewarded for taking risks and see great fortune in everything from finance to travel to love as a result.

The least compatible zodiac signs

Unfortunately, Rat, Ox, Snake, and Monkey tend not to be comfortable with Tiger energy. Rat is cautious and methodical, but careful plans don’t always amount to much in a fast-paced, unpredictable Tiger year. Similarly, Ox is very pragmatic and routine oriented. Although Oxes may see some fun now that their own zodiac year is behind them, “Tiger energy can bring unexpected problems,” Levitt explains, “so stay the course and be diligent and conscientious in your work.” Snake’s reserved nature is at odds with the boldness of Tiger, so quiet meditation may bring more rewards. (Although, Tiger’s artistic creativity may also inspire this sign.) Finally, attention-hungry Monkey will not enjoy the fact that everyone will seem to want to do things their own way in 2022. In the end, while it may benefit others from risk-taking this year, the same cannot be said for this group, who should probably lie low for the most part.

The middle-of-the-road zodiac signs

Dragon and Rooster should fare pretty well in 2022’s year of the Tiger. Both of these signs appreciate and share Tiger’s enthusiasm and boldness; however, Dragon may encounter some power struggles, and Rooster will likely need to find a way to “not get swept up in Tiger year passions,” as Levitt puts it. Sheep should also do well, especially since Tiger energy will make them more sociable. However, Sheep cannot always keep up with Tiger and must make time for rest. Similarly, the gentle Rabbit will find excitement this year, but may be overwhelmed at times. Levitt advises that Rabbit people tie up loose ends before their year comes in 2023.

The Best New Years Resolution For Your Zodiac Sign

Astrology for the New Year

A New Year’s resolution is, fundamentally, the recognition that we want to be better versions of ourselves. It’s about figuring out the best way to harness our energy and our potential, and having some foresight as to what the new year may have in store for us can help with that. If coming up with goals for 2023 has you stumped, turn to astrology for New Year’s resolutions straight from the stars.

“Astrology can be used as our personal cosmic guide to setting timely intentions on New Year’s Eve that can unfold throughout the year, which is why it’s helpful to look at the astrological forecast when setting our New Year’s resolutions,” says Liz Simmons, a professional astrologer and tarot reader. The astrology for the new year is embedded in transformation, thanks to a once-in-a-lifetime planetary transit (aka movement). In March 2023, Pluto will move into Aquarius for the first time since the 1700s, bringing with it an energy of change. But this cosmic event isn’t the only thing to consider. Individual signs will also have a lot to look forward to in the new year.

The stars are the path to making your New Year’s wishes come true, thanks to the zodiac. Before you start planning your New Year’s Eve party, take a closer look at the cosmos to learn what New Year’s resolution has the most Zodiac compatibility with your sign. And once you’re finished checking out the astrology for the new year, take a look at your zodiac power color to inspire your New Year’s Eve makeup and outfit.

What this means for you

When looking at astrology for New Year’s goals, Simmons doesn’t focus on the sun sign (you know, the answer to “What’s your sign?”). Instead, she says it’s best to look at your rising sign.

“The most accurate way to gauge our New Year’s resolutions through an astrological lens is by using our rising sign, also known as the ascendant, when looking at the upcoming transits,” she explains. “Our rising sign is what we should look at when reading our horoscopes, so we should also use this aspect in our chart to determine the most significant transits and how they will impact our lives throughout 2023.”

Simmons also recommends being mindful of new moons for setting the intention of your resolutions. “I recommend looking for new moons to set new intentions in each house that corresponds with bringing something that you desire to fruition,” she notes.

In astrology, a “house” is based on the location and time of your birth and refers to an area of life or experience. The second house, for instance, focuses on values, financial security, money and personal property, while the 10th house represents accomplishments, reputation, status, legacy and career. “Since the full moons represent the culmination of a cycle in each house, you can use this lunar phase as a checkpoint for your progress,” she adds.

Get into the holiday spirit

Decking the halls with DIY Christmas decorations is a fun part of the holidays, but let’s face it: Some of you don’t know what you’re doing. It’s OK! Not everyone has a knack for interior design or DIY Christmas ornaments. Even if you do, you may have hit a creative wall, stalling on Christmas tree ideas or which trinkets to add to your mantle.

Thankfully, your zodiac sign holds the key to understanding your decorating instincts and how best to use them. So while your neighbor may be living her best season with wreaths of every shape and style, you may be better suited to some subdued candles. In fact, astrology can guide you on more than just how to create the perfect holiday home. You can use it to determine little things like your favorite fall cookie, big things like how to celebrate the holidays according to your zodiac signand even bigger things, like the best dog for you.

Read on to find the best holiday decor for you. But no matter your zodiac sign, don’t overlook the classics. After all, what is Christmas without some twinkling lights?

Aries (March 21April 19): Set out colorful candles

Two words: Slow down. According to astrologer Guadalupe Terrones, people born under this zodiac sign have a tendency to get ahead of themselves. “Aries should choose one object that’s going to spice up their home for the holidays and call it a day,” she says. “While shopping, they might get a bunch of exciting ideas, but by the time they get home, those ideas will have been just that.” Translation: They get caught up in the moment but have trouble committing to all their Christmas decoration ideas.

Since Aries is a fire sign, it is in their nature to burn bright. The trick, however, is to make sure they don’t burn out too quickly. “Colorful candles will be a nice touch to an Aries’s home and will help them to integrate the endurance of fire, not just the spark,” Terrones says. Embrace your fiery flare with red, flameless LED candles or a realistic-looking infrared stove heater. You can also light up with this LED vine stag head that’s reminiscent of your own Aries ram horns.

Taurus (April 20May 20): Scent your home with fragrance diffusers

Taureans love stuff. This isn’t necessarily because they are materialistic; it’s because, for them, the pleasure of living lies in satisfying all five senses to the max. It’s important for them to not just present their holiday finds but also to create an entire atmosphere. “An essential oil diffuser is, for lack of a better word, as essential as music to Taurus,” Terrones says.

While fragrances and the best Christmas songs take care of smell and sound, that still leaves three more senses: sight, touch and taste. Christmas cookies give a taste of the holidays, and holiday-themed accents satisfy sight and touch. “Adding new textures to their couch and tables, such as pillows and tablecloths, will feel nurturing to a Taurus during the holidays,” Terrones says. “Above all else, their homes have to look beautiful.”

Not sure where to start? Engage the senses with a gorgeous, gold-accented holiday reed diffuser, then set an enchanting wintry scene with icicle lights. Or serve up luxurious treats with holiday-themed place settings.

Gemini (May 21June 20): Stock up on board games

People of this zodiac sign see decorating as a means to an end. Their goal isn’t necessarily to make their house look the best but to provide their guests with the experience they’re looking for so they will enjoy being there. “They’ll decorate their home to accommodate their guests,” Terrones says. “This can mean getting the latest streaming devices [and] board games or the funniest ornaments.”

You want to make sure everyone has a good time at your holiday get-together. Maybe humor rules the home this season; stock up on joke ornaments for laughs. Or go the entertainment route with fun Christmas party games, like Christmas-themed Monopoly, Catan or charades. Hosting a virtual holiday party? Encourage your friends and family to get gaming headsets for some online gaming.

Cancer (June 21July 22): Fill frames with past holiday photos

People of this zodiac sign crave a homey feeling. For Cancer, this means preparing meals and being surrounded by meaningful decorations. “Cancers will decorate their homes more with aromas from baking than anything else,” Terrones says. “All the decorative gifts they’ve collected from past family members will come out of storage and bless their furniture. Every decoration and holiday treat will have a story attached to it.”

Add to your holiday memories by displaying the perfect family picture in a handcrafted frame, a new Christmas Eve tradition that you’ll enjoy for years to come. Cute, holiday-themed serving trays and bowls that hearken back to Christmases of old are also a great way to celebrate for Cancer.

Leo (July 23Aug. 22): Go big and go gaudy

You know that house on the block that always has 10,000 strings of lights, three inflatable snowmen and countless ornaments dangling from its trees? That’s Leo through and through. “They are a competitive sign,” Terrones says, “so they will be the ones most likely to overwhelm their windows or their porch with a loud, decorative piece that garners attention to them and their home.”

There is no such thing as “too much” for people of this zodiac signand that applies to decorating themselves too. Gaudy holiday sweaters and flamboyant accessories will be plentiful in a Leo’s home at this time of year. Don your best ugly Christmas sweater and go big with outdoor Christmas decorationsthink an inflatable LED-light snowman or roof display.

Virgo (Aug. 23Sept. 22): Use fresh greenery

Unlike Leo, Virgo is not a sign that indulges in excess. “A Virgo home is orderedalways,” Terrones says. “Virgo will decorate their home by switching out practical household items for their festive equivalent.” This is when the “Number One Mom” coffee mugs transform into ceramic Santa cups. For Virgo, it’s not so much about decorating as it is about establishing a Christmas party theme.

As an earth sign, Virgo also enjoys the simplicity and beauty of the natural world at this time of year. “They’ll enjoy bringing nature into their home,” Terrones explains. Real trees and Christmas wreaths are very important to Virgo. Can’t make it to a farm or tree nursery? Accent corners, tables and mantles with red winter berries, or order a natural-looking, wintry pine wreath.

Libra (Sept. 23Oct. 22): Display fine art

Libras are somewhat similar to Virgos when it comes to holiday decorating because they, too, like order. “To them, symmetry is beauty,” Terrones explains. “Libra is as close to a fine-art critic as you can get when it comes to decorating the home. Balancing things is their specialty in life and in aesthetics.”

For this reason, hanging themed art during the holidays is one of the most satisfying activities for Libra. Whereas some zodiac signs will find joy in being purposely tacky, a Libra’s home will be impeccable. So art won’t feature bright reds and greens with a grinning Santa in the center; it’ll instead evoke a sense of the wintry season while providing perfect spacing. Stemless wine glasses for entertaining andfor families that open Hanukkah gifts instead of Christmas presentsluxe display dreidels provide some literal balance.

Scorpio (Oct. 23Nov. 21): Set out chocolatey treats

Scorpio only really needs one item to ensure a successful holiday: chocolate. “Chocolate is essential,” Terrones says. “Chocolate is rich with symbolism, and Scorpios enjoy adding levels of meaning to their surroundings.” So what’s the deal with this delicious treat? It’s luscious, it evokes passion and it represents decadence.

Continue the chocolate theme in your decorating with a hot chocolate bar kit, which provides everything (except the candy) you need to set up a festive and interactive chocolate display for your guests. Sweet treats in pretty packaging make for great holiday food gifts as well as novelty pieces, and a chocolate advent calendar doubles as both decor and dessert.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22Dec. 21): Create a tabletop display

“They want their home to be bright, positive and inviting,” Terrones says of people born under Sagittarius. “They enjoy the pleasures the holidays bring in terms of food, drink and laughter, and so they want an ambiance that will match the joy.”

Upbeat holiday tunes and smiling, happy tchotchkes will set the mood. Sagittarians will love silly and sweet tabletop figurines and displays, like this musical snowman lantern, which features continuous swirling glitter. Get in the spirit even more with our ultimate guide to zodiac gifts.

Capricorn (Dec. 22Jan. 19): Illuminate your decor

Winter is Capricorn season, so holiday decorating is almost therapeutic for this sign. “Decorating for them has to come with substance and be within Christmas traditions,” Terrones says. “It is good medicine for a Capricorn to take some time out of their busy day to mindfully beautify their surroundings with bright lights and glimmering ornaments.”

Their holiday decorations will be subdued compared with those of the other zodiac signsthink twinkle lights and illuminated decorbut it’ll be just enough to remind them that there is light shining in the darkness of winter.

Aquarius (Jan. 20Feb. 18): Add comforting touches

Aquarius is rather selfless around the holidays, focused much more on giving than receiving. Like people born under Gemini, those born under this zodiac sign will do whatever it takes to ensure the happiness of their guests, even hanging personalized Christmas stockings for all. “They want the essence of the generosity of the holidays to shine through more than anything else,” Terrones says. “They understand that the physical ambiance means a lot to other people, and because they want everyone to feel open in their space, they’ll make it a point to decorate accordingly.”

Aquariuses will go out of their way to make their guests feel comfortable. Cozy Christmas kitchen appliance covers are great because they will keep your guests’ hands from touching cold surfaces. (It’s cold enough outside!) And an understated holiday doormat lets guests know they’re welcome.

Pisces (Feb. 19March 20): Go with a Christmas movie theme

The same thing that makes Pisces lovable is, to some people, also what makes them somewhat irritating. Pisces loves the holidays. (Some would say a little too much.) “Pisces is a sign that loves the music and the nostalgia that the holidays bring out,” Terrones explains. “They’ll listen to the holiday music playlists 24/7 before November even rolls around.”

It’s not just a fun time of year for Pisces; it’s a truly sentimental one. When it comes to Christmas activities at your holiday gathering, classic Christmas movies, like Miracle on 34th Street, will be playing on repeat in the background. You can even play up your holiday movie favorites in your decorthink Charlie Brown’s Christmas tree and the bell from It’s a Wonderful Life.A Pisces will also stay true to family holiday traditions, like putting out tons of Hanukkah chocolate gelt as a shiny, gold decoration and a sweet the kids can nibble on.
